i received a call from a collection rep at an attorney's office saying i would lose my license & sheriff will be at my job with legal papers to serve me if i don't call back within that day, the message was given to me by my co-worker..i called the next day to speak with the rep as to why the threat but said i can take care the matter now by paying $500, told him if ii could speak with the attorney or someone above him, said he is the general manager & the attorney is at court he is the only one i can speak with, i told him i don't appreciate the threat & why he had to let others know my business & that i will file a complaint against him with the attorney general's office. then i ended he call. is this right? do i have any rights about this?

First thing you need to do is to ask the co-worker to write out verbatim what was said in a written statement form....then get it notorized.

Secondly send at C&D notification to the attorneys office. You could easily make a $1000 with just the written statement of the co-worker and an intent to sue letter. However, you might want to contact a consumer attorney thru NACA. http://members.naca.net/findanattorney.php
My husband made almost $5000 over similar threats.

What attornies office was calling? There have probably be similar complaints on record.
