citi cards legal dept

I just received a call from a person at citi,claiming to be in their legal dept.I am 6 months behind on my bill and the man said i need to come up with $300 on the 29th of this month.He said if i didn't,then the lawyers would run my credit reports and look at all of my assets.

He said that i would be taken to small claims court.Well, after getting off the phone with him,i googled the number (800-891-2873)And it came up as United Collections Bureau.

Why did this person say he was with citi cards?Is he also just trying to strong arm me to pay?I don't think that any of my assets would show up on my credit report.


You don't want to ignore it outright. First you should send them a debt validation letter (you can find a template for one via the first link of my signature) send it certified mail, return receipt requested. Also, UCB is a collection agency, they are not licensed as a law office and as far as I can tell they don't have any attorneys on their payroll.
