Unemployment.

Anything under an hour might not sound like a long drive but I have some issues. I can't sit in a car that long. It's a phobia of some sort I guess. I get very anxious.
I've sent out plenty of resumes and I hope it won't be too long before I find employment again. I have at least 2 good leads and I'm going back for a second interview on Thursday.
So today I am going to relax so I can flip out and stress tomorrow. I'm going to wash my car and clean it out nicely. Today was supposed to have been my last day but my 3rd child fell Saturday while playing basketball with a friend and sprained his hip.
Things aren't so bad. YeT! hehe

Hi FYI, I know the feeling of that huge cost of fuel, between me and my husband we spend $700 in gas a month. I wish you good luck with your interviews I'm sure you will find a job soon. I hope your son feels better.

why would you quit your job before you find a new one - that's one thing i taught my kids - it's harder to find a job if you aren't employed

I just sent off for a current catalog for the local community college. I'm thinking about business administration and Spanish.
Also, for the guest post that hasn't posted yet. That is indeed good advice to give to your kids and in fact that is what my mom told me. My reasons other than what I posted above are my own. Needless to say I have the support of my husband and my family. The cost of travel outweighed the benefits.

You have to do what is best for you and your family and you are the only one who can determine that. If a long commute is too stressful for you you should not do it. Gas prices are getting outrageous. Relax and enjoy your time off and good luck with the job hunting. I hope you find the perfect job.

The way that gas is and will continue to be, you have to do what you can afford. That extra money a month that you will save, can go for something else.
You will be in my prayers for things to settle down!! I hope your son is doing better also--when it rains it pours..Karen

FYI - it'll all work out, you'll see! Keep your chin up, relax and enjoy the fact that you no longer have the stress of driving that far every day, and just keep sending out those resumes. It'll happen! :D

Sorry to hear that you're on the bricks, FYI. With any luck, you'll find something better, closer.
Meanwhile, enjoy yourself for a few days. Nothing wrong with that at all. And give yourself a pat on the back while you're at it. You've done something that no one else could ever do. You've made me sad to see a collector out of work.
Best -

Well I went on another interview today. This one was for the dispatcher position at the police department. This was the most intensive interview I've ever been in. I think I did well. I'm kinda hoping that the other job will call me back first though. I was told it takes about a week or two to do a full background check. I think I will call tomorrow to see how that is.
I would call back too. It helps them see that you are interested
I would call back too. It helps them see that you are interested.
I applied for 2 jobs once, wanted the first one more. I called them back after the interview and thanked them and then I called back a few days later and told them I didn't want to bother them, but I really needed a job.
It worked and I got the job and met my husband there!
Good Luck..Karen

The haves and have nots
I don't understand why those in Washington and corporations don't seem to understand the financial bite that gas prices are taking out of people's pocket. I wish our sitting President could try to live on an average American budget for a week. I doubt that he manages his own finances anyway, and he can actually afford an accountant that does everything for him. He does'nt have to buy fuel for work. He lives at his place of employment! It is really hard out here for those of us that are average joes trying to make it in this world. Please someone pay attention to the consumer. What good is an economic stimulus package for american tax payers when it will all go to filling our gas tanks...., to go shopping Mr. President? Please! After filling our gas tanks to get to the local malls, we'll be lucky if we have 25 cents left over!

I most certainly need a local job. Our price for gas went up 10 cents in less than 12 hours. We are now at 3.30 for regular unleaded.
I feel your pain, FYI - we went from $3.35 to $3.45 yesterday.
I feel your pain, FYI - we went from $3.35 to $3.45 yesterday. It really stinks. It's one of the main reasons I moved closer to work - now 27 miles round trip every day as opposed to 50. And when the kids aren't in school in the summer, it will only be 18 miles round trip.

I don't know how anyone can afford gas, groceries, etc., right now.
We are doing ok, but I know some who aren't. My son and his girlfriend live together-she makes less thatn $7.00 an hour, the work is hard to find, wages that support you, even harder.
I will stop complaining about gas though, after reading some of your posts- ours' is $3.09 at the moment, and I thought that was high! Although I have noticed that my grocery bill has about doubled in prices!
Good Luck FYI!!..KAren

Gas here is up to $3.65. I am glad the weather is nice enough now so that I can ride the motorcycle. Went about 200 miles last week on $9.00 worth of gas. Can't beat it.

No unemployment for me even though I'm told I qualify for it. I left my job on my own terms so I don't think it's right for them to have to pay me for it.
The reason I quit because we relocated for my husbands job and it became unberable for me to keep up with the commute. Sitting in traffic sometimes for hours, moving a couple of feet every 10 minutes or so.
Because of how far away we moved I and that it was for a spouses relocation I am eligible but I don't feel it is right for the company that supported me very well while I was there to have to pay for that.

Well FYI that sounds promising. Don't feel bad about collecting unemployment that is what it is there for...you had to quit for you and your family's well being and to mention the price of gas these days,...ouch just put $20 in for 5 gallons at $3.69, but that's a whole different story in its self. I will keep my fingers crossed for you.

I wouldnt feel bad either collecting unemployement if deserved it but I think if they would answer to unemployement claim in this situation that you voluntarily quit and job was still available if you wanted to come back you would not qualify to draw off of their reserve good luck on fininding a job soon :D unemployement is there for people who get laid off or fired not for those who voluntarily quit and seek a better life former employer should not have to compensate for this and I respect you very much fyi for realizing this fact :D

Also, consider this: UI premiums are something every company with employees pays anyway, as a matter of law. It's a state-mandated and -administered [in most states] insurance program. It's not as though the benefit amount comes out of the company's pocket directly.

you will still get it, however I know when someone is let go at my job for a "discipline" type reason, my company will figh tthe unemployement claim, often they win and the person then has to pay back anything they have already received.
