Unemployment.

Anything under an hour might not sound like a long drive but I have some issues. I can't sit in a car that long. It's a phobia of some sort I guess. I get very anxious.
I've sent out plenty of resumes and I hope it won't be too long before I find employment again. I have at least 2 good leads and I'm going back for a second interview on Thursday.
So today I am going to relax so I can flip out and stress tomorrow. I'm going to wash my car and clean it out nicely. Today was supposed to have been my last day but my 3rd child fell Saturday while playing basketball with a friend and sprained his hip.
Things aren't so bad. YeT! hehe

that's a rip...getting fired and then getting unemployment and then have to pay it back...it must have been something pretty bad that they did to get fired for...do you know what they did, just curious
lots of times, its just due to attendance, breaking polies, etc.
lots of times, its just due to attendance, breaking polies, etc...They will fight all claims and win most often....

Get this, my company didn't even fight my unemployment claim and the State of Florida still denied it! We had that phone hearing, where me and the employer were supposed to voice both sides of the issue and they didn't even bother answering their phone for that. I had to fight for months trying to get my unemployment claim paid.
Still lost.
Florida, I have heard, is the toughest state to get unemployments benefits in. Which is odd since it is an "at will" state, meaning either the employer or employee can terminate their working relationship at any time for no particular reason and with no notice. Works great for the employer, but not so much for the employee.
Oh, and don't even get me started on having to deal with state workers! I was on the phone one day from 8:30 AM until about 3:00 PM trying to get some kind of status on my claim. The favorite phrase of most of the people I talked to was "I don't know." And that was a suitable answer to them, they didn't even bother to find out.
I actually had one woman laugh at me when I asked for her supervisor's name and number and I went ballistic on her! I did get her supervisor's name and number, and he advised that wasn't like her to be like that. I asked if their calls were recorded and would he pull that particular one up.
I even ended up calling the Governor's office raising hell. Lot of good that did. But it made me feel a little better.
So, if you have unemployment benefits, FYI, my recommendation would be to use them. I can understand if you don't want to out of respect for your past employer; however, you need to think about yourself. The sad reality is, you might be unemployed a little longer than you expect.
I hope not, though.
I will certainly consider it. The finance job is STILL doing
I will certainly consider it.
The finance job is STILL doing background checks etc.. They called me the other day to tell me that everything looked good so far. It's driving me nuts!
I applied for 2 more jobs but I was told that they won't even be looking at the applications for another week or two. Why even put an ad in the paper if you aren't hiring yet!

When I lost my job due to Government cutbacks, I had worked with the same company for 15-18 years off and on, mostly on. I became friends with my employer during that time. He told me when I lost my job, to get all the benefits I could, That is what I pay taxes for, and what they pay unemployment for.
At the family business, the don't take it personally when someone files, and the only time they fought it, was when an employee took some money from them..Good Luck FYI, you will be in my prayers..karen :D

LOL!
I wish I knew the answer to that question, FYI. I went to a staffing company about two months ago, in answer to an ad they had placed on a local job board. I went to the initial interview at the company, took all the computer tests (Excel, Word, Typing, Accounting) and thought everything went great. I did speak to one guy there a few weeks after I went, and he went so far as to tell me they do post ads for jobs they don't even have in order to increase their candidate pool. I asked him, what do they do with they candidate pool they already have? The ones that have already been in there to see them and need a job?
I haven't heard from them now for two months. I E-mail the job board they were posted on and told them about my experience; the fact they advertise jobs they don't even have. I actually got a response back, they advised they have actually banned employers for such behavior in the past, but mine was the first complaint they had received against this employer.
With the increasing number of people looking for jobs, I can't understand why employers have to lie to and mislead applicants. I just don't understand.

Well I have to go take a test for BASF tomorrow and I sent off my resume to a friend who works at NASA because she said there are about 5 admin positions open. Honestly I don't know how these two will go because I am not highly educated like most people are who will be going out for these jobs but I have all my ducks in a row and I like to think I am well educated.
The finance company has called me again, they want me to get a letter of reccomendation from my old employer. I've already told them that my boss would talk with them but it was against company policy to put anything in writing. I feel like I am jumping through hoops that are on fire now.
I am still looking! Everything is still afloat, all bills being paid on time but I miss paying more than the min due.

I spoke with the finance company today. They said it is going to depend on the regional manager now and she will let me know in a couple of days. I hope I get the job. I've jumped through enough hoops.

I will keep my fingers crossed for you FYI they would be stupid if they didn't hire you, you have alot of experience and knowledge and they will be losing out if they don't hire you.:)

I became ill over the weekend ad I forgot what time the test was today for the BASF. I confused the times when she told me the test started at 2 and would last for three hours so I showed up at 3 thinking the test was two hours! GAH!.
I have to call tomorrow to find out if they will reissue the test sometime.

Oh that's too bad. My god what type of a test is it that it takes 3 hours...yuk......good luck to you. Hopefully they will reissue the test for you, they should have given you a phone call this morning to remind you of what time it was. Just explain to them that you were sick this weekend.

but do notbat all agree with lady statement that if you quit you still get unemployment...... maybe laws are different in different states..but you have to get fired -- not even laid off in my region to qualify for unemployment benefits--you might collect under former employer if you are lucky but if you actually quit a job and employer provides proof--you are denied umeployment benefits under ANY circumstances

"Generally, you have to have been fired or laid off to qualify for benefits meaning if you resigned or quit you will NOT be eligible to receive money or checks. "

I handle unemployment claims for company I work for..if you Quit your job you do not collect unemployment unless you can file some sort of lawsuit that the reason you quit was sexual Harassment etc.

I'm pretty sure the rules are different by state.
I quit a job, many years ago, because I was originally hired for technical support. After 6 months, I was told I would also have to start doing sales in addition to technical support (it was a bank I worked at).
I quit on the grounds the job duties had changed, and I never agreed to do, or wanted to do sales. I advised the lady from unemployment, during the unemployment hearing, if I had wanted to do sales I would have applied for a sales position as they had plenty of openings. I would never had taken the position if I had know up front they would change the job description like that.
I won the case and got my unemployment.
FYI, I'm sorry you're still unemployed. Believe me, I can begin
FYI, I'm sorry you're still unemployed. Believe me, I can begin to understand exactly how you feel.
Just keep up the looking, don't get discouraged, and something good will come your way.
I've done the same thing you have done. Right after college I had an interview at a bank, and actually showed up a day early for it. They went ahead and conducted the interview while I was there and didn't make me come back, they must not have had anything else to do.
I didn't get the job, though; not enough experience. No big loss.
FYI, have you tried craigslist.com as a job search tool? That's how I found the job I was just offered, it was the only job board they posted on here in Jacksonville, FL. Might be a valuable and useful tool for you.
Just a thought.

Ugh, 90 days!?!? That's three whole months of no income. That really stinks, FYI. Why the delay in hiring you? They made you jump through all these hoops to get the job, now they make you wait. I'm sure they'll say it's budget constraints, etc. But that doesn't help you right now. Have you made them aware that you are actively job hunting and that you can't wait that long? A little gentle pressure?

Or, if that was an actual job offer and you have to wait the 90 days until you start work, you could accept that job and keep looking for another. That way you have yourself covered in the event nothing else comes along before then.
If you are offered another job within that time, just let the finance company know you found something else and you will be taking that job. Be nice to them when you let them know you found another job though, you might want to be considered for future employment with them some day.
It just amazes me how rude some employers can be, though. They want the employee to commit to the company 110%, but they treat the employee like something disposable without that same commitment back from them.
Sad.
Well actually I was encouraged to take a better offer should it
Well actually I was encouraged to take a better offer should it come my way. The problem is their opening the new office. It's taking them a lot longer than expected.
I am still looking for employment.

Oh that stinks, FYI! So they tell you they will hire you in 90 days, but in the meantime, if you get another job offer, you should take it?? It almost sounds like they're not serious about what they're doing. (Sorry, just my opinion.)
Please keep us posted, FYI, we're all pulling for you here! :-)

Well, in the company's defense (and I hardly ever defend employers, been screwed over by too many) I am actually going through a pretty similar situation. The company I was hired at is doing the same sort of thing. They are expanding their offices here, and hiring about 400 people in this first wave; they plan to hire 1,000 employees over the next three years here. I was given a "tentative" start date of July 7th, so I hope it doesn't get pushed back.
While not being 90 days away, it still feels like an eternity to me.
I too, have been keeping my job hunt going. Just to see if anything else comes along that is any better. Kind of doubt that, though, as this offer was pretty good! It's kind of nice to be able to realize I have already been offered and accepted a job though, while still looking.
Not as much pressure!

if someone encouraged me to take a better offer if it should come my way..I would not be interested at all..if company wants your services..they will retain you until new office is open.look for something better than this company FYI i think you will not be happy with them in long run :x

You might be right guest but I am at the point of I need a job and I need one soon. School clothes are going to have to start being bought and also things for extra after school activities. I've cut basically everything extra we have back to the min except for the internet b/c that would only be a 10 dollar difference.
I just applied for a job not more than 3 blocks from my house and I hope I get it.

Good luck, FYI! I'm pulling for you.
Yeah, I know what you mean about the Internet. It seems these days it's not a luxury, it really has become a regular part of almost everyone's daily life! I couldn't imagine not having it!
Plus it comes in handy for job hunting!
