Help in dealing with MTE?
Date: Wed, 04/02/2008 - 10:17
Paychecktoday.com sent me to collections. I borrowed $400 and repaid $200 so far. I do intend to pay off the remaining part I borrowed once I have the money. The collection letter they sent me states I owe $868.00 to ACA Recovery. I sent ACA recovery a debt validation letter that Cannr posted. All they sent back to me was a copy of the internet loan agreement. Nothing else, not even a breakdown of how they came to the $868. So my question is.... how do I respond? I noticed that the internet agreement stated "Paycheck TOday aba MTE".

hea12ther! Oh, welcome to the wonderful world of MTE! First of all, please know they are unlicensed/illegal, so they basically can't do crap to you. Second, your collection agency did not PROPERLY validate the debt. They can not. It is not a legal debt. They can not possibly give you proper legal debt validation since it's not a legal transaction. Here's what I would do if I were you, file complaints against Paychecktoday and against ACA Recovery. File with every agency. They can't do squat, but they may turn you over to the credit bureaus. Nasty jerks. Keep your eye on your credit reports. If you see them on there, dispute the living hell out of it and have it deleted off. If you need any help, just post!

Wow, I am scared after reading that. I think at least four of my loans are with one of their d/b/a's. I send letters out tomorrow or Friday and am really scared about the responses. hea12ther good luck! I am sure people here will help you figure this out. They seems to be genius angels!

The main MTE company I'm dealing with right now is United Cash Loans, and let me tell you, they are a royal pain! But, as cannr said, they're unlicensed, PDL's are prohibited here in Maryland, so all they can do is call and annoy me with their empty threats...
