closing credit cards

I just got an discover card. I wanted to only use it to transfer a balance, but realized that it was for only 3.9% 6 months and I was looking for 0% apr for one year on balance transfers. Since I have not used the card can I close this card without effecting my credit score.

If you have no outstanding on that card, then it may not affect your credit. However, if you're delinquent with your payments then try to pay off whatever amount you owe to them and close the account thereafter to avoid any negative entry in your credit report.

I have serveral old credit cards that I no longer use or for that matter, I have not used for years. I want to close these and I need to Know how to go about this. Noe of these cards have balances nor have I received a statement for years. There was a couple that had a form letter to use for this purpose, but I have misplaced their web site address. could you advise me on somethin similar?
