I was transported to hospital by ambulance in June 04 provided 2 insurance one Medicaid for disability and the other spouses health insurance from employer.
Received a bill called provider she stated she was to lazy to bill medicaid and now they are suing me for balance is this possible

The admin person gets points for honesty. Contact hospital admin folks, your county - since that might be who you got the ambu ride from..? And if you have a medicaid caseworker contact them too. Your spouses ins probably doenst cover ambu rides and not sure if medicaid does... you have the persons name that you spoke with correct?

If the agency contracts with Medicare/Medicaid, they are suppossed to be filing. Conmtact them yourself again, and if they say the same thing, contact Medicaid and your secondary insurance and let them know what is going on.

I do know that Medicare pays for ambulance rides, mom has had many. I also know that my sis-in-law had private insurance and had her incision open up after she got home from surgery and called the ambulance which transporated her. The ins company later refused to pay because it wasn't an emergency  but my brother had the Doctor re-code it it as an emergency and it was taken care of..Good luck..karen

The responsibility falls under both the patient and the health care provider to insure that billing is handled properly. Even if they sue you you can just tell the judge that it is supposed to be handled by medicare and that you are in the process of handling the issue with medicare to ensure that it is paid. I doubt the judge will render a judgment against you in light of those circumstances.
