What should I do if RJM Acquisitions sends me a collection notice?

Should I send them a debit validation letter or just ignore them.

I would send the debt validation letter. And check the SOL in your state. I wouldn't call them because that can open a whole can of worms. Just send the DV letter and see what happens. If they start calling/harassing then check the SOL in your state.

Had SOL expired before you left CA? 4 years from date of last payment? Sounds like either way they are SOL due to SOL if date of last payment was 8 years ago. Send them a DV and if your research determines that this is truly beyond SOL and federal credit reporting guidelines, send the a full cease comm FOAD letter in response to any further collection attempts.

Dear Texas Residents,
Don't know for sure. I just sent them a DV letter today certified return receipt.
Will see what response I get.
Checked all 3 credit bureaus there is nothing negative in my reports. They have been looking at my report for 2 years now.
Best regards

If it is not on your credit reports then just ignore it. They probably don't even have the account anymore and threw it away.

ok i got a letter from RJM acquisitions stating i had some music club debt from 2006 (which is still SOL in my state), but I just turned 18 late in 08 and the name on the letter isnt my full name its a nickname so i noticed it but not something on a legal doc anywhere
i was wondering if this sounds like a non-inventive scam and how i should go about it, cause i dont want to get bad stuff on my credit but i dont want to give them whats not theirs.

Berto: Send them a debt validation letter stating that the name on this account is not your legal name. If it shows up on your credit report you may have to get more agressive. IE- you may have to sue them.
Cry: Send a debt validation letter CMRR. when you get the green card back dispute it with the three CRAs. If they come back verified you now have them on 3 possible violations that will give you some leverage. If they do not respond to your validation demand send them another letter informing them of their violations and that since they obviously can't validate, you expect this item to be removed from your credit reports. If they do not comply, you will sue them. If they still don't comply..sue them. You will have a slam dunk case.
Guest: Send them a debt validation letter. that gift thing is just a tactic at best to get you to pay, to possibly bring an out of stat debt back into stat.

I got a collection letter from RJM also. I had a couple of options to pay off the debt. I chose the last one, because I'm not working again. I sent them a check on 3.4.2010. I kept looking in my bank account to see if it had been cashed. As of today 3.18.2010 it has not been cashed. What should I do? They are on my credit report also.

I got a collection letter from RJM stating they had purchased my account from One Spirit Book Club (never heard of it) and that I owed a balance of $112.17 for commitment charge based on the number of books I did not purchase back in May 2006. When I called their 1-800 number I got a recording that gave me the option to dispute the charge. When I selected that option, I got a recording saying my account is closed and I won't hear from them again. Is this for real because this company does not sound legit. I've had my identity stolen before, and I'm concerned that it may have happened again with this company.

I received a collection letter from RJM as well. It is for a overdrawn bank acct. that was taken care of and closed 5 yrs. ago. What type of acct. is a checking acct. so i can know my SOL. Would it be a open-ended or a written contract? This debt was 5 yrs ago when i lived in a different state also. What SOL do i go by?

Just got off the phone with RJM and I let them have it! They said they won't be sending any more notices and hung up without me telling them to remove me from their list. Should I call them back, or have they automatically removed me? Thanks.

ct in IL. - Send them a Zombie Credit letter. That just means they're trying to collect on an account that is outside of the SOL for which state the account was opened in. Make sure they send you a letter stating that they deleted TL's from all 3 CRA's.
katkat - You should send a request for Validation of debt letter. Who knows? it might not be yours.
kardr3- Send a Validation of debt letter. Once you figure out that the debt is out of SOL then send a Zombie Credit letter.
desireedetwiler - if its that old then send a Zombie Credit letter.
In any case you should always start with sending a Validation letter out to see what info the CA is using to collect on the debt. Once you've gathered all your info your next step would be to see if any are out of SOL from which the state the account was opened in. Thats very important. Make sure the CA is using the proper date of last activity. If it is out of SOL then you can send them a Zombie Credit letter

absolutely correct.
You now have to deal with the CA. You can however call the OC and request an account history. Which they're usually happy to provide you with. You can use this to your advantage sometimes. If the CA isn't reporting the correct information to the CRA's then you can send a letter to the CRA to validate that information on your Credit report. Then the CRA has 30 days to send you a response saying what their findings were. Usually the CA can't give validation to the CRA and the CRA has no choice but to delete the TL from your Credit report

Well the fact remains sir, that you still OWE the money they just don't have a legal leg to stand on now. They will keep selling your account until you send them a letter to Cease and Desist and probably they'll still sell it. But if they do you'll be in the driver's seat. You can sue them!

What state do you live in? You'll need to look at your credit report and find out who actually owns the debt. Next you'll need to determine if the SOL has run out. The next step, if applicable, would be debt validation.

my husbands just received a letter from rjm acquisitions in regards to a checking account that he has never had at all. it's not even his name, it's a similar name. example (without using my hubby's real name) it says:
james c. flowers (with our new address - we just bought a house) and my hubby's name is james l. smith-flowers. i believe they are confusing him with someone else that never lived in this house at all in the past (i checked the property records in my state of georgia). how do i go about notifying them that they are sending someone else's debt notices to our house? thanks

RE: Account 5145454156
Dear Sir or Madam:
I request that you CEASE and DESIST in your efforts to collect on the
above referenced account (SEE letter attached). It is my personal
policy not to deal with collection agencies and I will only deal with
the original creditor of this account.
You are hereby instructed to cease collection efforts immediately or
face legal sanctions under applicable Federal and State law.
GIVE THIS LETTER THE IMMEDIATE ATTENTION IT DESERVES (scumbag is

That letter makes the person look like they don't know anything. For one, some debt is purchased, which means you could never go back to the original creditor. This kind of letter would find the writer very possibly sued.
Unless you are absolutely sure the debt does not belong to you, you should never send a cease and dismiss. Send them a debt validation letter.

I just called them about a bill for my wife. It was a Mystery Guild account from 2002, which I had paid off at the time. Apparently they never credited our account. After speaking to them, they canceled the debt. Be sure to know your facts before you speak or communicate with these people.

Ok you need to find out where the bank is getting this information, if it isn't telecheck. You then need to contact that company and dispute the account because they are acting as a credit reporting agency and have a duty to make sure their records are accurate.
You could also try to get a paid in full letter from the place you paid off and show that to the bank you are trying to open the account with, but that won't solve the problem..just put a band aid on it. You really need to find out where this info is and get it corrected.
