Hi, I recently received a letter from allied interstate saying I owe HPshopping.com for a certain amount. I never purchase computers online due to the fact it can be damaged on the way from the warehouse to me. I call Allied and the Rep. told me the amount was outstanding since 2001. So, I called HP to find out there were no accounts created under my name. How can I go about clearing this? I know this is a debt consolidation website but maybe there is some information I can obtain from here. Thank you in advance.

what state are you in?file AG,BBB and FTC complaints.allied interstate is one of the biggest scams on american soil.they might occasionaly collect for student loans, but everything else is stuff they throw against the wall hoping it sticks.by the way 2001 that might be beyond the SOL anyway.send A C&D letter to the address on the letter.you more than likely owe nothing to these scammers.to summarize.file complaints and don't pay these idiots anything.

Thank you "paulmergel" for replying. I am in the state of California by the way. This did seem fishy because they said to pay a smaller amount to cover for the original amount due. Do I need a lawyer to draft up a C&D letter or can I draft myself one? I am sort of new at this so I dont relaly know where to start... :-( What is a SOL by the way? Thanks again.

you can draft a C&D letter, scroll down.on the right of your screen you will see a heading called ALSO SEE.there you will find a sample letters topic go there.as for THE SOL that means
statuet of limitations.basically after a certain time debts become non litigatable.in other words you can't be sued on them.

SOL in California is 4 years from date of last payment. Find a debt validation letter from the do-it-yourself forum, most include the C&D. Send this to them, if it is within 30 days from receipt of the letter then they can not do anymore collection activity (including listing it on your Credit Report) until they validate the debt.
Modify the letter stating that you have contacted HPshopping and they show no account was ever opened by you.

Send it certified mail, return receipt and once you get the receipt back check your credit report to see if they listed the debt. If they did challenge it, unless they have validated the debt they are unable to respond to the challenge thus the entry will be removed.
