I am having a issue with my utility company (FPL) they have attached my outstanding balance on my closed account to my husbands current account with this same company. We have sent an email stating that we would like to know why this balance was transferred and we are asking them to validate it, but haven't gotten any replys yet. I have searched and searched and haven't been able to find any information as to where I can get help and/or report this. I have called legal aide but they can not help. We live in florida so if anyone can give advice I would appreciate it.


I don't think that it matters about the SS #'s. The service address is the same and you are husband and wife. Someone may have a different opinion but I think they are well w/in their rights to combine the amounts. Was your account closed recently? W/in the last few months or was this a while back?

I think you should call the company & see what kind of arrangements you both can agree to...I'm sure it'll be fine that you can't pay everything at once...and you also don't want to run into a situation where you aren't paying anything at all, aren't in contact with them & they terminate service.
