We are in the midst of getting a mortgage approved. Our credit report showed HSBC/RS with a balance of
$1129, but also stated that the account was closed in 12/00 and has $0 due. What is the best way to contact them and how do we go about getting this non-existent balance removed? Thanks

hhmmm. What was the date of last activity on the credit report? Need to find out what the statuets of limitations are in your state. Then possibly send a dispute to the credit bureaus if is past the time frame mentioning that this is over the time frame and should not be reporting on your report. Someone else may have a better idea but those are my thoughts.
