Removing HSBC/RS error from Credit Report

$1129, but also stated that the account was closed in 12/00 and has $0 due. What is the best way to contact them and how do we go about getting this non-existent balance removed? Thanks

hhmmm. What was the date of last activity on the credit report? Need to find out what the statuets of limitations are in your state. Then possibly send a dispute to the credit bureaus if is past the time frame mentioning that this is over the time frame and should not be reporting on your report. Someone else may have a better idea but those are my thoughts.

The only date mentioned is the 12/00 date. This creditor is only still showing up on 1 of the 3 major credit reports. If there is a statute of limitations, do you think perhaps I don't even need to contact HSBC RS, I could just contact the credit reporting agency?

Wow, thanks for your help. With the info from one of the stickys for this forum, I was able to dispute my CR online, and in less than 24 hours received an email confirming resolution. I went and checked the dispute resolution and they had deleted the accounts I had disputed as being too old.
