I have a question that I'm hoping someone here can help me with. Yesterday I received a notice in the mail from PRA stating that they're offering me a settlement on an account that was charged off 2/26/98 by Kay Jewelers. They (PRA) are showing the balance due as $1700+. I just got off of the phone with the Recovery Department at Kays, and I was informed that the account was sold to PRA on 8/27/04 (this is the first I've heard from them) for $825.14. What should I do? They're offering me a settlement for 1/2 of what is due. I have since bought a house and obtained credit cards, and this has never come up. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I live in OK, but I opened the acct in TX. What should I state in the letter? I've never had to do this before.

One more thing....the lady at Kay's told me that their SOL is 7 years from the charge-off date, which would've been 2/05. Does the SOL start over when PRA purchases the account?

No, the SOL starts on the date of the last payment made or the first date of delinquency (When it became 30 days past due). For Texas it is 4 years I believe. The 7 years is how long they can report it on your credit report. I think she's trying to pull a fast one on you. If you make a payment to PRA, that would start the SOL all over again.

Well, I definitely won't be making a payment to them. Any ideas on wording for the validation letter? Also, I heard that there's a letter that I should send requesting that they only correspond with me via US mail.....should I only send that if they start calling me?
