I keep getting harrassing phone calls from a collection company called AS & Associates for a loan I took out with national money store I asked her to send me documentation regarding the debt with national money store she would not I want to file a complaint and need some info on this company if anyone has it. Or any advise on what to do to get rid of this threatening idiot mrs lee that keeps calling me threatening to put me in jail!!

Thanks

This sounds like one of those scams where a bogus collection scares people into sending money via moneygram or western union. No, you cannot go to jail for this.

Did you get a loan with National Money Store? Was the principle paid off?

Tell them you are recording the phone call, reporting them to your AG, the BBB and the FTC regarding their collection tactics. Legally, they cannot threaten you, put you in jail for "fraud" and must provide written validation of debt. Ask them for a physical address.

If you do have a loan with National Money Store still active, then they could have sent you to a CA.

This is the information I located for AS and associates:
AS & Associates
1112 North La Brea
Inglewood, CA 90301
Phone: (310) 412-1189

You can also read threads about this and get more help by typing "A.S. and associates" into the search box on the upper right of the screen.

Good luck! Remember to fax and mail your validation of debt and cease and desist letters to the company and definitely report them for threatening and illegal collection tactics.

Nevertheless, if this is a bona fide collection agency attempting to collect from you they should know the laws, and the law says that after their first initial contact with the debtor they have 5 days to send you a dunning letter, you need to tell them that the next time they call. At that time (after and IF you receive a dunning letter) you have 30 days to ask them to validate and prove this debt is actually yours.
