I posted recently, so this is a repost with more information.
First, my new husband does not know about this, and I would prefer to handle it on my own, for obvious, stupid reasons, I know.
I have been contacted by Hanna at my work, I did not take the call, nor have I called them back-after research showed what they were calling in regards. The calls have stopped, but a few months ago, they sent a letter to my ex-husband's home(we used to share it while married), stating that I owe $200 more than the original debt(Capital One) and that if I fail to contact their office within 30days, they may consider additional remedies to recover the balance-questions-what remedies and am I responsible for that additional $200? I did a general/limited/free public records search and see that there is a civil judgement against me(I'm assuming it was them), under my maiden name(name changed a year ago due to new marriage) but I have received nothing to my home address, as I don't believe that they have it-YET. What happens from this point? I have a new last name, as of a year ago, I didn't forward my address when I moved into my husband's home, which is in his name, we have no home phone, as we both use cell phones-which I have been contacted by creditors on my cell. I plan on paying off my debt mid-January, as I will have enough money to do so, but i'm afraid of waiting until then to contact them, out of fear that they won't be patient. Once I pay off the debt, how will the Civil Judgement work out? I know my credit is screwed, I take full responsibility for my stupidity and would love to just get it over and done with, but can't until then. I'm a month away from having my debt paid, what do I do? If I call, I don't want to give them my new address, I would prefer not to have them record my conversation, can I do that? Thank you in advance!
