i know, i had to deal with them before for HSBC but than, too, they fell off the face of the earth. i almost laughed when they said $1500!
I am going to look up their address - should I just repeat the DV, C & D process than?

DV them..let them try to prove it with the records from the closed down store. Sounds fishy, entirely fishy. 1500 for a video store is ridiculous!

thanks everyone :) i know its crazy, i just was so surprised they came back out of the woodwork! i actually sent them the dv letter before i even joined this board - it was the first one I ever sent because I really want them to prove out the $1500!

So you DVed them before? Do you still have the green card from that round of DVs? If so, they are already in violation, since they never validated and they attempted collection again. You should check your credit reports and see if they are listed.

hang on, so you sent them a certified DV letter, and they started calling again without providing the validation?
if so, then they just violated federal law. do you by chance still have the green receipt card showing that they signed for your DV letter you sent them last time? PLEASE tell us that you do....it will be all the proof you need to tell them whats coming next.....
if you still have that card, i would send them another certified letter, informing them that they received your DV request in writing on (insert date they signed the card), and since that time, they have not provided the required documentation of this alleged debt, yet they have begun calling again, trying to collect it. i would inform them that they have two options right now--
1--cease all collection effort on this alleged debt immediately and permanently, including any reporting on your credit reports.
OR--
2--you will file suit against them for their willful violation of section 809 of the fdcpa, as well as any FCRA violations you might find upon checking your credit reports.
I wouldnt mess around with these guys, they are bottom-feeders looking for a payday they dont deserve. I would tell them straight away that they will be sued and will be paying me damages for their willful violations of federal law. Sometimes that is what you must to do put one of these junk debt buyers in their place.

i'm looking for the green card, i am sure i have it.. i don't trust them neither! should i resent it? i also have to look into my state's s (NJ) SOL as i am sure it must be up (not that i owed them $1500 but i havent even rent ANYTHING from them in years, as the store has been closed for years..)

i know they collected for HSBC (who sent me off to RPM, I guess) and I know they contacted me in the past for hollywood video but i dont even remember how i handled it. i do know it was not $1500! i am going to send out everything.

I have Hollywood Video and National Credit Solutions on my credit report claiming I owe $384! It is completely impossible. I had a rental account with Hollywood Video but never thought I had a late balance and was NEVER contacted prior to them putting it on my credit report. The store went out of business this summer and again, as far as I knew, I had no balance. I barely used that account. What do I do? I filed a dispute with experian tonight as soon as I saw it on there. I am ready to scream I am so angry. It is just so outrageous! $384 in late movie rentals...... What are they trying to pull????

Hire an attorney...I did, and I just got a very large settlement from NCS...even AFTER the attorney took out their fee.
Seriously, go to the NACA.net website, locate a consumer advocate attorney near you and retain one to deal with NCS. You have the law on your side!
