I am drowning in debt! barely got my head above water, was just looking for tips from others on what to do. I heard the add on the radio and called one of those lawyer agancies who said if i stopped paying on my cards they could get them all reduced or canceled. i just have too send them money and let them deal with it? I don't want to file bankruptcy or get out of it, just need a better way to manage it! looking for help from other survivors of the evil credit card companies? help........

Be careful of anyone advertising that they can get your debt cancelled.

What type of debt do you have?

Is it with the original creditor or collection agencies?

What state do you live in?

How much do you owe?

These questios can help us give you a little more info on taking care of your debt. There are many of us here who have had the same problems. There are also many wasy to solve your debt problems, including Do it yourself.

Feel free to ask questions. If you do decide to go with any company, do your homework, check them out thoroughly..karen

I hear ads on the radio all the time for companies offering this same service. There are at least six new ones that I know of in my area that have been advertising in the last few months. I would beware of these. If you really want to go with a company, use one that's been around awhile and has a proven track record with very few complaints. Compare the fees and policies and choose one that suits your particular situation. If you do not have a lot of accounts and can manage the settlements yourself, you are better off. You can type just about anything into the search box above and get a list of links to click on to read of others' experiences. Definitely DO NOT sign up with ANY company until you spend time investigating and comparing. Research the entire settlement process and its pitfalls as well as benefits before you start. It is a last resort before bankruptcy, not a "quick fix". Know what you are getting into. Too many people sign up for a program without knowing the company or what they are in for, and end up being scammed or raked over the coals.
