Deleting or Editing Posts
Date: Tue, 01/27/2009 - 09:35
Just before I wrote this an ad post came up with a link. While I was trying to edit it and put a note that would say something like "deleted per forum rules-Frogpatch" it was pounced on and deleted in nanoseconds by one of the two other mods that were on at the time.
Am I right or am I wrong on this?

Wasn't me this time BUT I have deleted posts before, sometimes there are too many spam-like posts at the same time for me to take the time to "edit" each one. JMO :)

BTW, also, there are times when spammers revive 2 year old threads simply for the reason of spamming, which pushes important posts downward, that's kinda another reason why I delete some posts. Just sayin'! :D

I am not referring to those Russian looking spam posts or bots. I mean just a person who may have something to contribute that is not familiar with the rules. The one to which I was referring was advertising a debt solution company and posted a link to it..

Well, I can understand that, I use my discretion on what is a valuable post vs just plain spam, and I add my name after I edit it, I was under the impression that was standard practice. :D

Exactly what I meant to convey. I am glad we are on the same page. Who can forget that bot a while back that a whole bunch of us could not contain. What was her name?

I deleted the post you were talking about Frogpatch. There were 2 polls for Mitigation America. I deleted one on purpose and was editing the other and deleted it by accident. I agree, they should be edited and the TOS notated but am also with Shazzers. I don't know how many "Hi" and "Hack Again" and misc BS posts I deleted this morning and 3 year old threads revived for posts that add nothing of value to a discussion.

There was a 3rd and I edited it. We have 4 mods on today and very few guests. What up with that?

Oh yeah...I forgot the "What's the status of my loan" type posts that just drive me batsh!t crazy. Why can't they look past the first link on Google, I will never know.

The only posts I delete without looking at them are the Russian spam type ones, or the ones that say hi, great site--but I still look at those.
Otherwise, I believe in only deleting when it's an obvious violation of the TOS and it's something I don't do lightly.

I,also, have deleted. I try to use my judgement, but sometimes there are so many you can't keep up with them all. I also deleted an advertisement for a loan company the other day. I couldn't edit it, it was saying their name every few words, added nothing to the content of the posts, and just plain advertising.
Somtimes people come on and may not know, so I edit and put the reason why. I agree with the others, alot of them post on really old threads just for the sake of spamming or some other nonsense..karen
