i live in ri.i was contacted by tri-financial for a payday loan from cashnet that i defaulted.the loan was for 600.00.now the agency says i owe 1600.i settled with them for 1200.i gave them a check over the phone, but then i stopped payment on the check because i felt that charging me 100 percent was way to high.this lady addriane called my boyfriends parents told them i wrote a bad check and then she called my boyfriend and told him i wrote this check on a joint checking account with him which i do not have a joint checking account.when i called her back she was very abusive to me.she said she was going after my boyfriend because i wrote a check on a joint account and then she said that i am in big trouble and that i need to look up the laws for writting bad checks in my state.she said i am no longer helping you.she hung up on me.i called her back she said im warning you if you call me back im getting you for harrasment.then she said i had till noon to western union 1600 and then she said good luck with that.i called the company back and asked to speak to complaints department.i told the man everything she said to me he put me on hold and transfered me to her.i said i dont want to talk to you.she said too bad thats how the ball rolls i told her i spoke to my attorney and that it is against the law for her to call anyone and talk about my situation she said oh youd be surprized.she then told me i was going to prosecuted and that she was not making any payment arrangements with me then she called my boyfriend back and when he told her there wasnt a check written on a joint account she hung up on him.she threghtened me with being arrested for a bad check which i think i have the right to stop payment on checks.is this company for real and they broke so many rules.i have never encounted anything like this.she was threating abusive .i filed a complaint with bbb how do i get her to stop calling people

Send a DV Letter, and let them know in it, that they they are not to contact you, at either your home, work or any number that you may find of yours. Also advise in the letter that they are not to contact any realtives or references.

I'd also contact your DFI and see if they are a licensed collection agency in RI.

I'd also contact your bank and see about closing it so they can't get ahold of your account # and still try putting it through.
