Hi there.
Well first of all know that you are not alone! So many people are in your situation and have been able to find a way out. In my opinion, you have only a few options. If your 2 accounts had not yet gone to an outside collection agency I would suggest you seek a debt mgmt plan. However, since they are already in collections, I would contact a bankruptcy attorney. I only say this because you mentioned that you don't have any money to save for settlement, or for any other means of paying back the debt. You would probably qualify for a chapter 13, which would mean the court would give you 3-5 years to repay a percentage of the debt. They will not make you pay a higher percentage than you can afford. The judge will take into consideration all of your monthly bills plus money you should be putting into savings plus additional expenses you never would imagine they would include. The amount you may be ordered to repay to your creditors could be really small depending on your financial specifics. Yes your credit will obviously take a huge hit. The other option would be to wait it out...it is possible that your creditors will not sue you, and that you will simply have to endure the phone calls and letters. Lastly, have you thought about getting a part time job instead of switching jobs all together? Sometimes just a 15 hour a week job is enough to get by, to get back on track. Just a thought.
