I would like to know what type of protection do military personale have from debt collectors under the Soldiers and Sailors Relief Act? My son has recieved a letter from Mann, Bracken about an old Discover card acct. Acct was opened in 1999. Last payment was three or four years ago. SOL for the state of Ky. I believe is five yrs. for written contracts. He is in the service but not stationed here. Sent a debt validation letter about two weeks ago. Did not state that he was in the service. From what I have been reading, they are a NASTY, greedy bunch of people. What sorts of protections does he have?

I looked on the site, but could not find anything about the Soldiers and Sailors Relief Act. I did however sign up for the program on Budd Hibbs' website, so that they could assist us with Mann Bracken.

the current law was changed, and now all servicemembers are covered. He will need to talk to his JAG about his debt. He is going thru a financial advisor that is working with him to get all of his debt straight and will work out repayment plans.
