Does anyone know who afni is or who they may be collecting for? Their number is 866-857-7209?

It might be possible that the company may be having various departments and one of them had been making the calls.

Though you might have informed them to stop the calls, but if they call in the future, send a written letter as well. This way, you will have something to prove.

In the meantime, I am assuming that you should not receive any calls from them in the future.

Keep in touch

I recently received a letter from afni saying we owed a sprint bill. I called them to inquire since my cellular was Nextel and they had only just merged with sprint. They said we owed a bill from 1991 from an address and phone number that were unknown to us. They did however have my husbands nickname as the account holder, and his last 4 of his ssn. They said they would settle for half the amount if paid within 30 days. We do not have a problem paying a debt that is ours, but I do have a problem with a debt that is not ours and is 14 years old. I wrote them a dispute letter and they wrote back stating that they would contact the major credit bureaus if not paid. I refuse to pay this debt as it is not ours and is a clear case of identity theft. How are these people getting away with this kind of thing?

Sandy make your approach more legal. This debt has way passed its statute of limitation (SOL). This means that no creditor or collection agency can force you to pay the said debt and cannot take any legal actions against you.

Make sure that you do not make any payment towards this account or sign any promissory note. Otherwise, the SOL will be set from the beginning.

You can now place the dispute on two different reasons. Ask them to validate the debt if it is your bill with all the details. Later, if they manage to give you any information, you can dispute with the expiry of the SOL.

Do your correspondences in writing with the company. It is very important for you to keep everything documented in a file so that you can prove the facts at a later stage. Send your mails through certified mail with return receipt requested. You will be sure about them receiving your mail.

My voicemail keeps getting calls from that phone number. It's been going on for 2 years. They are looking for a person who perhaps had my number a long time ago, or who is deliberately giving them a wrong number.
I am tired of this. In 2 years, they have left perhaps 100 messages. Calling them has not helped. They wanted to know MY name! As if I have anything to do with whoever they are trying to reach.
Suggestions?

Anon

Send a cease and desist letter along with a debt validation letter. The calls must stop after receiving your request. If they continue to call further, it will result violation of the fdcpa and you have a legal stand against them. The template of the cease and desist communication is at this link

My girlfriend got a call on her home phone from 866-857-7209 about my friend, but my friend only met her once, does not know her phone number, or even her last name. I just recently hung out with him after not seeing him for a year or so. How did they get this number and why would they call? It is strange.
