Yes, the call is from Global Credit & Collection, a NY based collection agency. I think that they have purchased your cc debts. If you want, you can contact them at their toll free number 1-800-563-4929. You should also pull out your credit report and check whether they are listed against any of your debts. If it is so, send them a debt validation letter by certified mail.

My last date of activity on these accounts was the end of December. I owe Capital one $5500. and Chase $8000. Would Capital One likely have sold my debt that quick?

Since you have not made any payments towards the credit cards for over a period of 5 months, it is likely that they have considered it as a bad debt and sold it off to Global Credit & Collection. A creditor generally sells your debt if it is past due for 90 days or more.

It is highly unlikely that these have been sold off yet. Cap1 very rarely sells debt off before expiration of SOL. CO would be @ 180 days so not sure where SC is getting the 90 day sell off figure from. Next time they call, verify you are the person they are looking for, verify your address and inform them they now have 5 days to send details of the debt in writing. When you recive their dunning letter, follw the debt validation process. For those amounts, a DV is only a stall tactic. Both Cap1 and Chase are likely to litigate.

How likely are they to sue if I have no assets? The house and car are in my husband's name. I have not been employed in 9 years. I am the only one on these cards. My husband's hours & pay have been cut, and it is all we can do to keep up the mortgage. I am hoping to save some to be able to settle with them. However, right now that is not possible. There are very few jobs in the small town where I live, so I haven't been able to find work right now. Does it seem likely that Cap1 would be more eager to settle than sue?
Thanks for the help!

You might not have assets now, but how about 10 or 20 years from now? Judgements have an SOL of their own and many states, like mine (TX), are good for 10 and renewable for another 10. What state do you live in?

I would call Capital one to see if they sold your account. I'm no specialist but I think that's the most sure way of knowing - right from your creditors mouth.

The calls will stop, if they don't, let them go to voice mail and there is a fine for EACH call they make after you send them the cease and desisit certified. My husband received calls from this company. They go by the name Global International as well as Global CC. My husband advised them to contact me since I handle the bills. When I spoke to them, i asked if they were collecting on behalf of the original creditor or if they purchased the debt. They told me that they work on behalf of the creditor. I contacted the original creditor and verified with them that they in fact sold the debt. They are sending me written confirmation that the debt was sold to this company. They are very misleading, threatening lawsuits, and are very rude. I would suggest to anyone who get contacted by this company to immediately send them a cease and desist letter and contact an attorney. You can also file a complaint with the attorney general in your state. If you search them on the BBB website, they have a raiting of F because they dont respond to complaints filed with them. It's companies like this that give reputable collection agencies a bad name.

Global must buy credit card info but are contacting anyone who will answer since I know I don't owe a dime but they keep calling me. I've had a credit card for 20-years and was never even late on a single payment so I won't answer any calls from anyone who won't even state who they are or what they want.

capital one sold my debt to gobal credit collections $2917.44. i was about 5 payments behind. i got this letter threatening a lawsuit and threatening voice mail. i paid 7/31 $500 and said i would pay $500 each month for the next 3 months. but i cant do the my low income now and to many other bills including medical (diabetic). can i get away with paying them $150 a month? i havent received any paperwork stating that i have agreed to $500/month.

As someone wrote in one of the posts above, a good way to find out the status of an account is to call the original creditor. More often than not, especially in the time frame mentioned by the original poster, the account has just been shopped around, i.e., "assigned" to a CA, usually with an understood arrangement of 50/50, 60/40, something along that line. The original creditor has nothing out of pocket invested. If the assignee gives up, then it's on to another CA with the same kind of arrangements. After this merry-go-round, quite a few months if not two to three years, the account may be "bundled" along with several others (can be hundreds or more) and sold outright for pennies on the dollar to a CA. It is at this time that the debtor will experience most of his troubles, since the CA has almost nothing invested and may be willing to pony up the cost of a court trial......

I hope nothing truly horrendous happens to you, suddenly, like you find out you have cancer, for example....or any other financial hardship you NEVER expected.....Most people don't plan for these disasters. Eventually, something unexpected WILL happen to you....so I hope you don't owe any creditors!

i would like to know whether a collection agency can't sue you when u don't reside in a state. i live in Ny and i was sued in fl for a debt that i owe. What can i do because i need this judgement dropped against me. Can i contact the court? They were so rude. i am not letting this go I will fight them in the court if i have to.

can a collection agency sue someone in fl when they live in NY? I was sued and I do not even live in the state of Fl. I owed a debt and was in a financial situation. Now that I am in the recovery stage i am trying to pay it off. They took me to court without hearing me out. I also have papers and research about this deceitful company. i want to know what can i do to take off this judgement against me. Can i contact the court in fl to see if i can plead my case?

Happened to people I know. Just happens that collection agencies (for real or fake debts) will have to stop calling you immediatey once you inform them you have obtained legal representation and give them the name and number of your attorney. It's the law (or specifically rules and regulations governing debt collections) that these people will have to go thru the attorney and are no longer allowed to speak or contact with you directly.
Everytime I call these people back and ask very politely that my clients are not who they are looking for (in my cases that is a true statement) and that they are not to be contacted anymore, and that they need to direct all communications to me, the calls stop.
I'm not offering legal advice, but just to share my own experience.

:-|How does Global Credit get into your bank account and every 2 weeks start withdrawing money from your bank account? I don't even know who these people are that are taking my money. I asked the bank for a phone # and they said they did not know who these people were and did not have a phone # for them. But yet, they continue to take money from me. How do they do this? Is this legal?

You can't expect me to pay for something from 5 years ago!!!
I tried talking to them but they didn't seem to get it.
I googled their company name "Global Credit" and found their website.
I sent a request to stop bugging me. A manager called me back a couple days
later and told me they were closing my account. The website is http://www.globalcollection.net
