We just called the 800 number on this website to ask for assistance with all of this PDL stuff and they told my husband that they would help us "if" we consolidated both payments and then paid them a "fee" to settle. Their fee is more than what we really even owe. The person my husband was on the phone with could "see" our PDL's, how is that possible. Sorry but I am afraid that this website is giving out false hope and false information.

I can personally tell you that the last thing this website would ever be is in cahoots with any PDL. We have been threatened with lawsuits by several and have PDL employees coming on all the time trying to stir things up. That only means that they are running scared and we are doing our jobs.
You can definately settle by yourself, if you have the time to do it.

If you look closely in this forum, you'll find ways of paying off your PDLs on your own or eliminating the illegal ones. DO NOT... I repeat... DO NOT sign up with a company that "helps" you get rid of the debt. Take time to read through here, post questions and you'll get good, quality answers. Again, DO NOT sign up with a company that "helps" you get rid of the debt.

i cleared up all my payday loans by myself and one at a time cause that was the only way to get a handle on all of them. i did not back down to threats and the more they called, the more i emailed them the same letter that i would talk via email only. i paid them all off without having to close my bank account and I used a walmart reloadable card for payments. i demanded PIF's and got them. all this was possible because of the support from this website.

this board and the 1-800 number on this site are different. on the board, we tend to advise to settle these loans by yourself. when i signed up, this board did call me but i was never pressured to sign up. in fact, i doubt if i even talked to them. no offense to anyone, but what i love about this site is the advice given on this board.
we can help you here.

Debt Consolidation Care is a debt settlement company so of course they will charge you a fee if you use their services. How else could they stay in business? My husband also contacted a debt settlement company (not this one) and they wanted him to open a separate checking account giving them authorization to do ach transactions. He was to deposit a certain amount out of each of his pay checks. They were going to charge him 12% of the total amount of his debts. And the 12% came off the top, meaning they got their 12% before any settlement negotiations would begin.

However, this site does offer other ways to "do it yourself" that will not cost you any fees. And the best thing is they offer this forum with very knowledgeable people that will assist you in the steps to get out of PDL hell.

I do find it very strange if they could "see" your PDLs??? Just out of curiosity I think I would call them back and ask them how they had this information!

This website has a ranking chart and once you fill up the sign up form on this website, you are referred to a debt consolidation company in your area for the free quote. You are under no obligations to sign up with them. Take the free counseling. It's worth a shot.

jpgibbs, I see that you have already registered on the website. It seems like you have already listed your creditors information on the "my debts" section. If you have already done it, this information can be viewed by the other company referred to you for the free counseling. By any chance, do you remember the name of the company who called you?

DebtCC is NOT a debt settlement company, it is a do-it-yourself get-out-of-debt public Community forum. In order to stay online, it also advertises and offers a referral service to debt settlement companies should a debtor so wish to avail themselves of a company's services rather than go it alone.

No company on the planet can offer a service to you for free. Even the low cost non-profit ones are paid by the creditors themselves - *someone* pays them. There are so many people on this board that have successfully fought the PDLs on their own. You will get the full support of the membership here if you should so need assistance.

I am sure that this is just a misunderstanding. A DS company charges around 15% of the debt you owe. If they quoted you a "fee [that] is more than what [you] really even owe" then you entered your information incorrectly.

I pay a debt MANAGEMENT company $40.00 to manage my credit card debt. They were able to get my interest rate lowered and pay over a longer period of time. The $40.00 is worth it for that peace of mind.

I came on here because I stupidly got caught up in the PDL cycle. I learned invaluable information. Spent about 4 hours constructing my letters to the illegals. Closed my bank account as per instructions here. And am able to sleep at night knowing my money won't disappear.

Thank God and St. Jude for this website.
