Help! Should I just pay the bank? Much needed advice.

Anywho, I tried to fight the bank and refused to pay, and ended up in chexsystems. Now I have collections people calling me saying that I can pay a "settled" amount of 300 dollars. I don't know what to do because the collections woman told me it would affect my ability to buy a house, ect. But after the five years of being in chexsystems do you then get a clean slate?
I'm only 22 years old, and I know for sure I'm not buying a house in the next five years! I already have a checking account with fidelity, so I don't have to worry about getting a bank either. I'm just thinking, if you're only on chexsystems for 5 years, is there really much point in paying the 300 dollars?
Thanks in advance to anyone who can offer some advice. :)

If your chexsystems report is a year old and you pay it now, that can set the date to five years from the date that it is paid. If you are going to pay for removal, make sure you get something in writing.
As far as the collectors telling you that you won't be able to get a house, dont listen to them. They will lie, lie lie and then lie some more. Yes it does hurt your credit but actually paying it will not really help your credit at this point. The damage to your credit is done. technically they could sue you for it but the odd that they will do that for such a small amount of money is next to nothing.
After 5 years, you will be removed from chexsystems. If tehy do not automatically remove you, just send a letter requesting that they do, and they will

Thanks! I guess since it's already been a year, and if you really do get a clean slate after five years I really don't see the point in paying then!
