OK, so last year I was with citizens bank, and my account went into the negative by only a few dollars. They then charged me the overdraft fee of $35. That was fine, and I was willing to pay that. But THEN I got all of these other overdraft fees of 35 dollars for items I purchased up to two weeks BEFORE my account went into the negative!!! They said because the transactions hadn't gone through on their end yet is the reason why I was charged all of those fees. That's such a rip off, that money left my account the second I made the purchase to what does that have anything to do with my account going into the negative after the fact?

Anywho, I tried to fight the bank and refused to pay, and ended up in chexsystems. Now I have collections people calling me saying that I can pay a "settled" amount of 300 dollars. I don't know what to do because the collections woman told me it would affect my ability to buy a house, ect. But after the five years of being in chexsystems do you then get a clean slate?

I'm only 22 years old, and I know for sure I'm not buying a house in the next five years! I already have a checking account with fidelity, so I don't have to worry about getting a bank either. I'm just thinking, if you're only on chexsystems for 5 years, is there really much point in paying the 300 dollars?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can offer some advice. :)

If your chexsystems report is a year old and you pay it now, that can set the date to five years from the date that it is paid. If you are going to pay for removal, make sure you get something in writing.

As far as the collectors telling you that you won't be able to get a house, dont listen to them. They will lie, lie lie and then lie some more. Yes it does hurt your credit but actually paying it will not really help your credit at this point. The damage to your credit is done. technically they could sue you for it but the odd that they will do that for such a small amount of money is next to nothing.

After 5 years, you will be removed from chexsystems. If tehy do not automatically remove you, just send a letter requesting that they do, and they will
