This is my first time doing something like this but it seems to me that they haven't validated anything other than it's a discover card account from thirteen years ago. There is no mention of this account on my credit reports and I haven't had a discover card in over ten years. Can someone please advise me with what should be the next step. Thank You.

can you recall the last payment on this card?also what state you are in.it sounds past the SOL(statute of limitations)if so you are not obligated top pay,and they can't sue on it either.please try to answer my questions the best that you can.it will go a long way to determine your next response.i see you mentioned you haven't had a DISCOVER card in 10 yrs.if that is the case when was the last payment?

Thanks for the quick response. I am in TX and the 10 years was my best guess as to how long ago there was any activity on the card as far as using it or making payments. Has probably been longer but 10 at the very least.

Portfolio is must be breaking laws then, because I have seen several posters state they were sent 1099c forms, by Portfolio, when the debt was not paid. That's how Portfolio earns their money....tax write off.
reply
that is because nobody contests those.there has to be a paid settlement to assess a 1099c.on the other hand if they do that the debt is no more.as stated if they file that form they cannot sell it again and the debt is technically gone as they are filing as if it was settled, and the remaining balance was written off.if they sell it they can be in trouble for tax fraud.don't know why people don't contest the 1099c.maybe to get rid of the debt once and for all.
