Two of my PDLs--and I'm suspecting the rest as well--attempted to debit my account despite my email notifying them of ACH revocation as well as demanding that contact be only via email or snail-mail.

So WHY did I get a voicemail at WORK?

One of them gavem me until 2:00 PM to call them or they will add a $265 "collection charge" and forward me to collections.

To think I almost gave them the benefit of the doubt and wasn't going to do anything with my bank account. Good thing I decided to error on the side of caution. I can't believe they just disregarded my emails:mad:.

Oh..and they want me to call and give my debit card or prepaid card or new account info. Well, people in Hell want ice water! I'm going EMAIL them MY terms of repayment.

Is proof of licensure and legitimate email address too much to ask?

What really hurts is that I was well on my way to a credit report clear of baddies until I made this stupid PDL mistake:(.

Original lenders are not covered by the FDCPA but may be covered by your states laws. Close that account and go live with your paycheck. These companies are usually illegal and will ignore anything you send them. Eventually they will give up and then you will have to battle some third party collectors. You will take some hits on your FICO that you must challenge to have removed.

don't frett about it i did the exact same thing i closed my account and dropped emails to all of my lenders after the fact. i tried to work things out but they did not want to bend so i just "broke" and closed it out then they would have to deal with me on my terms and little by slow they're getting their money. but the way i amd looking at it if i paid them above and beyone what was borrowed. then as far as i am concern they can cut there losses. and i have records of most all the pdl that were taken and what payments were made to those loans at first i was stressing big time now i am not paying them any mind my mort and util. food are way more important and with only one income. the pdl will get whats coming.?

first off dont be ashamed and don't beat yourself up. i myself done a whole lot of it and it does no good. you are only human just like me. when they call simplly tell the you can not have calls at work and hang up. on a personal note: someone from debt management company told me if they continue to call, just press the the buttons on your phone really fast and then hang up it hurts their ears. and like i said as long as your account is closed YOU NAME THE TERMS MONEY ORDER OR EVEN GET THOSE DISPOSABLE PREPAID DEBIT CARDS DO IT THAT WAY they all make me sick in the beginning they act like they really want to work with you then in the end they really show their true colors. DON'T LET ANYONE TELL YOU DIFFERENTLY, ONLY YOU KNOW YOUR SITUATION SO YOU WORK WITHIN YOUR MEANS AND NO ONE ELSES so do not beat yourself up because we all been to that movie!
good luck

Absolutely!! But before 11/27, be sure and close that bank account, OK? Because as soon as the PDL gets wind of the fact that they can't hit your account, they will try and do it faster than your head will spin!
Also, you can write what's called a Cease and Desist letter to the PDL, saying that they may NOT call you at work--and spelling out how they can contact you. Some PDL's honor it, some don't, but it's worth a shot. Let us know what happens!

RWilliams has it right, we've all been there so please don't feel any shame coming to this forum and asking for advice. RE the calls at work; my PDLs are gone except for "old faithful" United Cash Loans. My phone has a caller ID so when I see their # pop up, I just pick up the phone and then hang up. One one other PDL that would call me at work; they were calling from an overseas phone bank and would make all kinds of threats; I told them to talk away, that I had them on my speaker phone and that my coworkers and I were having a good time listening to them!

And as RWilliams says, get that bank account CLOSED and do NOT let the PDL's know ahead of time you're going to close it. Please keep us posted!

I simply told them I could not accept phone calls at work and then hung up. I had already changed my cell phone number. I previously sent them e-mails/faxes advising they were to only contact me by e-mail or snail mail.

I don't get any more calls now. Even Watson/Haines for Eastside stopped calling after I requested validation.

I will tell you this site is the only place that makes me feel strong enough to fight them, I have a feeling the State of California has given up on fighting them. But I guess I will just do it on my own with lots of letters. Thank god my employer is a good place and understands with such limited information I have shared. I will keep everyone posted as to what happens as of next week, I will be going to the bank Monday, (crossing my fingers they are understanding) and will want to keep me as a customer. And I have also been telling anyone I know about this website who needs advise. You guys have a big fan here..... GREAT WORK.

Read the 'sticky' here about closing your bank account; when you do go, try and talk to the manager. Odds are good they've heard the PDL story before. I agree about this being a great site; I was up to my eyeballs in PDL's when I stumbled across this site while doing a search online and I consider it one of the luckiest stumbles I've ever had! The people here give great advice and lots of support.

Jasgal and everyone else,
No need to ever feel shame or to feel embarrassed or anything else. I was caught up in the PDL trap and I am doing what I can to get out of it. I'm working with Town & Country Acceptance to make payment arrangements, I've sent cease & desist letters, I've ignored their threatening phone calls and I've closed my bank account and opened another at a different bank. These companies made a fortune off of me-and all of us--and being that their loans are illegal in NY, I am ignoring their threats and slowly they are going away and accepting the payment arrangements with T&C that they insisted they wouldn't accept in the beginning. Once they realize they have no options and that they can't intimidate you, things will improve. Hang in there!!
