They have 30 days to respond to DV. If they do not, they cannot collect the debt, contact you about the debt, or report it to the credit bureaus under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. If they do, it is a violation and they are subject to a $1000 judgement

They have no time limit to respond to a DV request unless you live in TX. Then they have 30 days. If your DV was timely, then thye must cease collection efforts until validation is provided. They must also list it as "In Dispute" on your credit reports. Calvary usually folds pretty quickly to a DV request. How old is the debt? What state do you live in? When was the last time you paid on the account?

As I stated above, they have NO time limit to respond unless you live in TX
Actually there is no time limit specified for the collection age
Actually there is no time limit specified for the collection agencies to reply on a debt validation letter. But the CA should stop all the collection activities till they validate the debt. Wait for a month, then you may send another DV if they don't respond to this one.
Now, if they don't reply at all, you may then dispute the issue with the credit bureau in an effort to get the entry removed from your credit report.
Lori, it's hard to say whether or not the CA would agree to a payment plan. You can search their name in the site to see if any member has a success story with them.

Thank you for the responses. I think I'm in panic mode. I've had some significant credit problems over the last two years and I'm finally getting my head out the sand to try to clean up my credit. I will give it some time.

actually in texas a collector or JDB or anyone collecting a debt must validate within 30 days.i do think if a collector or JDB can't validate then it should be dropped entirely.JMO.

I submitted a debt validation letter to Calvary Portfolio since they were reporting a collection account on my credit report. Today, I received a copy of a judgement that was filed in court for $1916.00 from Providian National Bank. The judgement was filed in September 2005. Is this considered proper validation of debt? I do not remember ever receiving this judgement from the sheriff's office, but my memory is not good anymore. Providian has charged off the debt and Calvary is reporting it on my credit report. Do I have any options left?

It certainly is, if that's a real judgement. Contact the clerk of the issuing court to verify it's athenticity, or lack thereof.
