I received a call from someone calling themselves Alan O'Conor of Carlsmith Ball in CA. on Wednesday 1/20. He said that he is representing a payday loan company, and that I am being sued. He said that the case is being litigated in California, and being sent to my town court in Massachusetts. I was to come up with a certain amount of money by Friday. I gave him no information. I asked for paperwork to be sent to me, but he was reluctant, and was asking for my lawyer.

I did some investigating. The guy had an Indian accent. I looked the company up "http://www.carlsmith.com/Bio/AlanOConnor.asp" I called the number. The voice on the VM did not have an Indian accent! The number that the guy left was also some unidentified number in California. I also found this thread from the phone # "http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-909-895-0005". BE WARNED! DO NOT BE FOOLED BY SUCH SCAMS! I am notifying the AG.

Notifying the AG would be the right move but at the same time you may also confirm that no lawsuit has been filed against you in the court of law.

Further, if you let the community know about the pdls you have, we can assist you in dealing with them as well. Not all lenders are legal in every state.

I could be mistaken, but aren't PDLs' illegal in Massachusetts and Florida anyhow? If you already have outstanding PDLs, please provide info on which ones, how much you borrowed, and how much you've paid back, and the people here can give you more advice on how to proceed (but these calls sound like out-and-out scams... the threats, the heavy accents, all fit the pattern; please read the sticky on this forum "the scam goes on and on.")
