I have been receiving calls from the Department of Law and Investigation.....they will leave a voicemail saying its very urgent and serious that i call them back. They are Indian accent sepaking saying that this is Officer Alex Hoffman (Amreican name--go figure). I will not call them back or talk tot hem when they call. I was told that my name and ss# will have a red flag on it(what does that mean).

I've been receiving calls from Affidavit Consolidation Services prior to the call s from the Dept of law and Investigation...so I'm thinking they are connected with them somehow.

But when I do a search on the Departmetn of Law and investigation there's nothing but rip-off comments about them.

So, can anyone give me some advice on this matter. I refuse to talk to them.....I feel like I have to change my number and they have been calling me at work.....

Thanks

I was listed as a reference for someone that took out a pay day loan and received a call from these guys. I worked in collections and skip tracing for a few years and know fair debt collection practicies QUIET well. I filed a complaint with the attorney general and the local BBB for the following reasons:
1. There is no Department of Law and Investigations. The company they are calling from is a debt collection agency that bought charged-off loans. So that's misrepresentation.
2. I didn't talk to them but they left a detailed message releasing information to a third party. (third party disclosure is BIG no-no).
3. They threatened me with fraud and a lawsuit. (You can't threaten legal action on a party not on the loan).
4. They called me six times in one day from 10-6 each time leaving messages.

My suggestion to all of you that receive a call from these people (report them if you have received any of the above actually):
1. I normally wouldn't tell any debtor this - but don't pick up the phone. They're looking for valid numbers. If this doesn't work - see number two.
2. If you do talk to them, ask for the debt you owe in writing AND send a cease and disist letter to them (ask for their billing address) by registered mail, fax, snail mail, all forms you can send to stop the calls and request everything in writing.
3. Check your credit report and make sure nothing fishy is going on. If you do owe the debt they can report it as earned income on a 1099 and the government will treat it as income for that year. If the company does report it - you'll owe taxes (and most likely back taxes) on that 'income'. BUT if you see this on your credit report and you can prove you never received this loan, dispute it. If they don't respond, it gets taken off your credit report :)

These guys have been calling me at home and work now. They say they represent CashNet Marketing, but there is no such company. I have a payday loan with Cash Net USA, and I called them ticked off because I thought they were the ones who did this but I was told know. They have gotten so many complaints about these guys the have set up their own fraud department to deal with it. Fortunately, I work for a rather large company, and I'm not the only person who have gotten calls like this at work. He uses the name Officer James O' Brien, and Sr. Officer Mike Walter when he calls. It is the same person, and he has been calling from a cell phone. He has threatened to have me arrested, to have my children taken away, and to cause me to loose my job. I stopped getting mad about it, now I either don't answer the phone, or I play with him when I do. He usually gets a little annoyed when I tell him what he can and can not do leagally, he'll hang up on me and not call back for a couple of days. I had applied for a payday loan back in Jan. The best I can tell is one of the sites that came up to apply for the loan on was a dummie site that allowed him to gather my information.

i just got through talking to these people. they told me the same thing. i knew it was a scam because they've tried several times before so i confronted them about. They told me to f*** off and that they were going to come F*** my daughter. (i'm not even lying) I told them my dad was a sheriff and the police were recording as we speak. I hung up on them and then googled and found all this stuff. I called them back again and told them what i found on the internet about them and they started talking more about what the were going to do to my daugher and her wet pink Pussy. they really said this. i had it on speaker phone and my hubby was listening. they asked what color my panties were. i told them again that the cops were listening as we speak and the asked if the cops were there F**king my hot wet pussy

The FDCPA and maybe even the laws in your state are there to protect you from illegal harassment. The best evidence of illegal harassment is a recording of the phone call. Record the calls if legal in your state because debt collectors will always lie and never admit to saying something that will get them in trouble. Then contact a consumer lawyer to help you sue the debt collection company and the collector. If they really said what you posted about your daughter, this is probably worth more than a million dollars. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ They are probably not able to pay, but the lawsuit would be fun anyway. Show them you aren't going to take their nasty talk.

I guess this is the same as the calls I was getting from American Legal Services - they mentioned early on that they were from the Dept. of Fraud Investigation.
Evil tactics from evil-minded people. They just called up and threatened to arrest me tonight for my court date tomorrow. At this point what do should I do? I can't get a billing address for them to sue them, so I'm kind of stuck here. I can file a police report, but they constantly change numbers.
Suggestions?

I received the same call heavy accent, they called my references and threaten to put one of them in jail and told the other one tell them to pay and we will go away. I spoke with them, they have my information from and online application we submitted. They clamed my husband and I owed 645.25, I asked what company he represented he gave me several company's names done i was familiar with. I asked which company stated I owe them, he said I dont know, then he threaten to take me to court and it will cost me over 8,000.00 dollars and he was going to ruin my credit if i didnt pay right now. Then he said i need you to admit you owe 645.25, i explain i'm not admitting anything, you need to prove to me I owe this money, send me a copy of the loan application, he replied its to late for that, pay now or then he began threats, I ask give me the company name and the loan number, he stated i don't have that, I replied well I'm not paying you anything, he replied okay i waste to much time on you, and hung up. I hope to never hear from him again, but after learning about american legal services i'm quite sure i will, i'm filing a police report, report with BBB, State Attorney Office, and placing a statement on both our Credit Reports. The number he called me from on July 9th is 909-581-8823.

Its a scam I just received a call for the same dept. with someone with an Indian accent saying they are brian cooper or something like that. Saying it is a serious matter, I don't owe any money. They also even went as far as calling my girlfriends cell phone number. Its all a big scam. I just ignore them but if they continue to harass me i will have to get someone legit involved.

It's a scam, they called my job and couldn't provide me with any information about WHO I owed and WHY I owed them. Said I committed several serious crimes and check fraud... Well, if it's a payday loan how is that check fraud? They also said I was being sued and my residence is under surveilance. When I asked them to provide information in writing as to who I owe this money to, he stated I'll get my letter when I'm sued. So I googled the number and told him what I found on the AG of Colorado's site and how they were scamming people and I wasn't paying a damn thing. He became nasty then, stated "did I ask you to send me money, you can keep your money" Reported them to my state's AG and now I'm reporting them to the FTC.

Oh, did I forget to say they neglected to tell me "This is an attempt to collect a debt..." you know that whole disclaimer collection agencies must state via phone? They also just starting giving all this info about "my debt" and I NEVER said I was who they were looking for, all I said was how can I help you. Proof this is a scam

1) They cannot provide written confirmation of the debt
2) They kept saying Cashnet Marketing is the "parent" company, but couldn't give me the lender's name
3) I just received a copy of my credit report, nothing fishy going on there
4) My background/credit report was just pulled for a recent job
5) I never took out a payday loan

People, please don't get worked up over this. Check your credit reports, send them a debt validation letter, use an online dispute. Check the pub record websites (if you've been sued, it should be there). If you can get an address, send a c&d letter, and report them! BUT DO NOT PAY THEM A THING!

just got a call from an indian sounding guy named Ream Marshall at Department of Law and Investigation from 970-208-1634. Left a message on the phone that it was urgent I call him back as soon as possible. Did a reverse phpone lookup on the number he called from and it showed up unplished landline in Grand Junction, CO....but the number he told me to call him back on was 720-258-8312. When I did a reverse look up on this number, it is an unpublished landline in Denver CO. Why would they want you to call them back on a phone in another city? I had someone try this about six months ago. They were from some other scam company, threatening to put me in jail for some unpaid payday loan I had never had. They called and called and called and told me to get a lawyer to call them back or I was going to jail. I finally told them my sheriff told me that they could not have a warrant on anyone for anything and that I could take a warrant out on them for harrassment if they called me again. Never heard from them agian. If these people call again, guess I'll do that with these scammers too!

they will never stop! I have had them calling me now for over 6 months! They call me at home and I've blocked their numbers, but they keep changing the number and they call me repeatedly at work. They will not stop no matter how many times I've told them I've filed reports with the FBI, FCC, BBB (which I have) - they don't care. One of the "officers" told me that the FBI "could suck his d!ck". Then told me he was in
Pakistan, so American laws don't pertain. I'm sick and tired of them and if anyone has successfully gotten ride of them I would love to hear how.

Has ANYONE gotten their address to do as advised above? The latest number they are calling from is: 786-309-5490 out of Miami. If anyone has their address I would love to have it to send them the cease and disist letter - but dout they'll follow it, but at least I've covered my basis.

I hate these guys...they think since they are overseas they are safe and I guess technically they are...its hard to sue someone in another country.

So...try something new..what have you got to lose? Keep disconnecting the calls that come in to work, and make sure your boss is aware of the harassment situation. But at home, start answering the phone and just shoot the breeze. Ask how the weather is, ramble on inanely about your dog, your cat, your favorite movie..anything. Just have a very sunny disposition and tell them that they win...since they won't stop calling you, that you have decided to take advantage of the calls and use the opportunity to rant about your bad day or have someone to talk to...tie them up on the phone and just laugh off any threats as funny jokes....

You waste thier time and they may very well think about wasting yours. If it is obvious you are not the least bit intimidated, it won't be worth it to them to keep calling you.

I have seen this work several times, myself included.

My own experience with these out of country guys goes exactly the same as everyone else here.....until I started just shooting the breeze....it pissed them off so bad that they would stop calling daily and I would only get a call occasionally...hmm...come to think of it..I haven't gotten a call in months...I used their own stupid comments against them....one guy actually had the audacity to say he was going to kick my butt and I gleefully replied, "Oooh so you are going to fly down here from whatever country you are in? Ohhh how fun! I flew once..it was great...." and I went on and on for 5 minutes before he screamed an obscenity and hung up.

It may help, but honestly at this point what have you got to lose? I guarantee you will feel better if you make them so mad they hang up on you. :)

Same guy just called me from 863-288-0032 Jack Cooper telling me that I owe a payday loan of $328.95 and because he checked my records I look like a nice girl who has never committed fraud and before they turn in my paperwork to the courts tomorrow he can check with his boss to see if I can qualify for a payment plan to stop this. REALLY???? I asked that he send me a fax or email indicating my 3 counts of charges against me in the state of Florida. I asked for his address so that i can verify who he is before. He told me to stop talking so that he could finish his part-I asked what is your part? He said, look you know who I am and once you send payment we can send paperwork stating I'm clear 72 hours later. I said before I pay anyone anything, I need proof and I need to speak with his supervisor. He placed me on hold and came back and said his boss is busy with other cases. I advised him to stop calling. He called again from 75000750540, and I told him DO NOT CALL MY JOB and I was reporting him by filling out form OMB CONTROL NO 1557-0232.
The address he gave me was:
Dispute Resolution Center
500 s duval st
supreme court building
talahassee, fl 33699

I LOOKED THE ADDRESS UP...THIS IS THE CORRECT ADDRESS:
Supreme Court Chief Justice(850) 922-5624

500 S Duval St
Tallahassee, FL
32399

SO........he is a fraud to say the least....he also asked me to send him form stating "it's not my attention to commit fraud." OH-and that I got a loan December 2010.-NOT TRUE!!!!

Typical illegal behavior. Don't give him the time of day. Tell him you don't give any consideration to voices on the phone and that if he has a legitimate debt he will send you that information in the mail. You can also inform him that you know perfectly well that payday loans are NOT check fraud and that he is in fact the one breaking the law by saying such, not you. Be very nonchalant about it, like you are not intimidated in the least.

All fake calls routed through Florida that originate in either India or Pakistan. I reported this scam to the local police - they called and the fake officer told the cop that he would come after his Mother etc.

This is just a phone version of the Nigerian email scam.

DO NOT SEND ANY MONEY THE SUPPOSED PAYDAY LOANS ARE ALL FAKE.

One suggestion is to call ( your ID blocked ) and harass the guy...........LOL I know I do on a daily basis.
