Morning everyone,
I am so glad I found this site. Here is the dilemma. I had taken out a loan with Paragon Funding a while back. So I get a call on last week from Sam Cobbs (a man with a foreign accent) from Jacobi and Mayors. He said that if I did not send a payment of 685.00 by noon, I would have my background checked and if I had any outstanding loans I would be arrested for fraud. Of course I became nervous. And I wired them 180.00 which is all I had. Unfortunately I did not think to do a search until I returned from work. I feel so stupid! So I did a search on the company and could not find anything but this website came up. My question is that I am not denying that I owe, however I need to get in touch with my original creditor about this. Does anyone have any info on Paragon Funding? I need all the help I can get. I am going to send a cease and desist letter to Jacobi and Mayors.the SCUM!!! What should I tell Sam Cobbs when he calls back?

Also, always remember sending money by western union or money gram is never a good idea. You never know who is getting the money.Any legit company will not ask you to send money this way.Unless you know for certain that the company is a legit business, dont send a wire transfer. And most importantly,You can not be put in jail for not paying a debt. They can take you to court and garnish your wages and report it to the CRA,but you will not go to jail.
What should I tell Sam Cobbs when he calls back?
Tell him that you have already sent payment, so you need some document. Otherwise why should you pay them in future? You never know if they are really going to report to the original creditor.

Ask him to send you debt validation and tell him that you need an agreement paper that confirms if you pay them, they will report it to the credit bureaus as well. also confirm from the original creditor whether Jacoby and Mayors are holding your accounts or not.

See this thread to know more on them-

Ms.Young

You can deal with your original creditor if the account is still with them. They usually hire some collection agencies to carry on the collection process and recover the debt. Contact the original lender and make a payment arrangement with them if they have not sold the account to this CA. Dealing with them is much easier than dealing with the CAs.

Keep the payment receipt of Jacobi and Mayors in safe place. You might need it later to prove the amount that you paid towards this account and thereafter, pay the outstanding balance.

As per the laws in the fdcpa, the collection agency is required to send you the debt validation or verification details when requested by you.

Since you don't have the proper account information, you have to wait till the company sends you the correct details. The federal laws allow you to refuse payments till the debt is validated. Make sure that you send your letter through certified mail with return receipt requested. In case, if the matter reaches the court, you should be able to prove your defense by showing the certified receipt slip mentioning the date when the letter was sent.

I too just received a phone call at work this morning, regarding the same problem as in the first post. Of course I was in a hurry to get off of the phone.. and didn't get any "real" information. What address did you send your letter to? The phone number they gave me to call them back on.. after payment was sent (which I did).. there is no answer.. except for a message stating the mail box is full for this extension.. Did I just get scammed?

Unfortunately I sent a money gram for $305.00 ... I did finally get through to them.. and they received the payment... but they refused to send me a confirmation letter or receipt( or any information as to the original creditor).. only the balance due. said I would receive something when the balance was pain in full.

Thank goodness for this website. I got a phone call yesterday from someone named Sam who was very rude and threatening. Told me I would be arrested by the end of the day. I didn't send him any money yesterday. Instead I started to research who he said her was collecting for and for these postings. Do not do business with these crooks!

I received a threatening call to from Sam Cobbs, this was back on 12/1/05 and it was supposedly concerning a $500 payday loan that I received well I agreed to send them $250 on that day by wire and then the other $250 by the end of the month, but I never did. Now they are calling back, I just got off the phone with a Bob at 714-243-5226 but they are operating from another company called United Something, now he is saying that I owe them almost $500 he said it is for the interest and late payment that was incurred. He seemed to have all of the information pertaining to the loan but I can't seem to find the payday loan company online anymore. He said the company is called MY1Direct and I remember seeing this when they emailed me saying that I got the loan and what I needed to do, if anyone has any info on them let me know so that I can contact them personally and pay them their money, I still have my receipt so I feel pretty good about at least having it, but they can be very demanding and I just had to tell him where to go and that he will wait on me to contact him on next week once I have done my research.

Hi Katrina,

You can use the information given below to contact M1Y Direct. Remember to get the statement showing the calculation of interest rates and other charges. The statement must also show the last payment made by you so that you know that the company is making the legitimate call. It's better to do your communication in writing with them for records.

This is a message to all who take out loans with a payday company. I received a call about a month ago in regards to an outstanding payday loan I had with some company back in Nov, 2005. I was told that I had committed Internet Bank Fraud and they would download my case by noon if I didn't send a payment by noon that day. I knew instantly it was a collection agency trying to collect on a unpaid (payday)loan. The person that was calling me was using several different names each time he called and his accent never changed. I finally called back and spoke with the same person who use a different name, when I first spoke with him, he then changed his name to the original person I first spoke with. I ask for a letter of debt and I told him my lawyer would be taking over. I haven't received any more calls from this group. I would report them to the Federal Trade Commission, because cleary they are misrepresenting the creditor that they are trying to collect money for. The guy also said he was with United Federal Services, emplying that he was a case investigator. This is collector tactic to scare you. Don't fall for it...Get a lawyer involved!!

Don't get afraid of these scary tactics. You will find loads of information in this forum discussing about such issues. I have never read anyone describing something like this actually happened. Believe me, threats are used to recover money at the earliest.

Call your original credit company and work out arrangements with them. Ask this collection company to give you the details in writing. You will be sure about them making legitimate collections. If they don't have your accounts, it may be an attempt to make some easy money from you. Just don't be afraid. Follow the laws and you will stay protected.

Thanks so much for your reply. I don't think I have a loan with them. The guy calling me is Rick Dunham. I laughed at him and he got pretty mad. I kept asking him who my loan was through and finally got that I borrowed money from Paragon Funding. Never heard of them. He wanted me to send money and I laughed so he called me names and wouldn't talk to me anymore. Pretty funny. I called him back a couple times just to bug him.

I just found this site by trying to find a site for paragon funding. I have been receiving multiple calls a a day from 3 different women in regards to funding I received through them. I have never heard of them nor have I filled out or accepted any loan from them, but they are saying that they have my bank account info and they are going to do an ACH debit from my account for what they say I owe. I have checked my bank account and the bank is not showing any activity on funds being withdrawn, but I am very nervous. I keep asking them to send me something showing that I received funding from them, but they tell me that they emailed me all of the necessary loan documents and contract. I have scoured over my emails and I do not have anything from them. What exactly is this company and should I be worried about them pulling money out of my accounts? Not having any documents to support what they are saying, I don't know what to do or who to call. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I also received one of these threatning phone calls. My wife panicked so much she had to go to the hospital. I also did pay them a few hundred dollars. When I got home and saw my wife, I took her to the ER. She had a mild stress stroke. Well I called my lawyer immidiately. They already took out like 1200 dollars from my bank. So I changed accounts and am now going after the rest back they owe me. Between the 2 company's I owed 750 dollars.I am also trying to track this United Federal something down and sue them for my wife's stroke.

I have not heard from them since. I too had 1 guy with like 3 different names. And it was this same number as everyone else wrote in their blogs. Thanks to this website, I too was able to relax and undertstand things better. Thank you so much.

I was totally surprised when I logged on in search of info on Paragon Funding and found this website of people going through the same thing I went through.

I initially took out a loan with Paragon for about $300 for which they charged me $90 each pay period. When the time came to pay them off I was unable to contact them to let them know I wanted to clear the loan. Long story short they continued to charge me $90 for the $300 for about 6 months to a year. It took that long for me to find any info on them. Finally I was able to get my hands on their phone and fax number because I received a letter from them in the mail. I want to pass that info on to anyone else who might be in a jam with them because of a loan.
Here is the info, HOPE THIS HELPS.

Tanettec.....I too took out a loan with Paragon for $300 and they have steadily taken $90 every two weeks out of my account....I have now paid them $540 and that is way more than I was supposed to have owed them. I am having a hard time getting any answers and now I can't even find a website on them. I believe that I will have to close out the account in order to keep them from taking anymore.

I was looking at a payday loan company which is United Cashloans.com. I went through them once and they were great had no problems. Then few months later I asked them to do another one and they said they could not fund the payday loan, but then I get two emails from two different companies one is oasis1m and this paragon funding. They say that they have a loan doc for me to view, but when I went to view it it said that they were glad to recieve my electronic transmission and someone would contact me they have a different number than the paragon, but I never applied to them and it is illegal for unitedcash to share my private information like ssn, routing number and banking account number. They said they would contact me to confirm this information, but I want to call them tomorrow and report them and threaten them with a lawsuit for harrasment. Can they do anything?

I took out a loan through MY1Direct a couple of years ago. I now have a guy by the name of Allan Miller from United something claiming he is in their legal department. He told me that by me taking out this payday loan over the internet it was a felony for something like taking money over statelines and also a civil matter. He also said that if I did not pay them by Wednesday that they were going to have the cops come to my place of work to arrest me. I tried to tell him that according to New Mexico law I could not be arrested for not paying a payday loan and he told me to call the local police and ask them. I am very worried and scared because I have children at home. I tried to tell the guy that I could pay him $100 a month, but that is all I could afford because I am supporting a family of 8 on my income alone and I don't make that much after taxes. Even forking out $100 a month is going to really put me in a bind. What can I do because I can't afford a lawyer, yet this guy practically calls me 4 to 5 times a day. Is there anyone that can help?

Hi my name is Natalie Baxter and I have run into problem with this company as well but mine get better. ontop of paying off Paragon Funding through a law firm now two years later I start getting phone calls from a law firm in CA saying I now owe ACH charges to Paragon Funding for 298.00. Paragon Funding sells your file basically to the highest bidder not only have law firms called me fro Ca I have also recievedn then from Atlanta GA, Kentucky and more so what I did was talk to my state attorney. and the guide lines are If they have a dedt to collect they are to send you documentation on what you owe the original dedtor as well as the amount you don't have to take anyone word over the phone. Trust me you are not obligated to pay them if they can't provide documents to you. they use all type of scare tatics to get money from you but in reality its a civil matter. Don't believe the calls you get from these idiots. If the threats continue call the federal trades commission at 1-877-382-4357 and file a complaint.

this is harrasment not dedt collection he has to send you certified documentation on the debt the original creditor and how much you owe don't let him scare you I don't think he is legit if he tries not to give you the documents. People can steal your information over the internet talk to a lawyer on your rights

You are a bit misinformed (the post about sending certified documents). For one, they do not have to send you anything certified. If you want any kind of documentation you have to send a debt validation letter and there are certain situations that determine just how you word your letter.

For example if you get a letter in the mail and it is the first you have received, then you have 30 days to send in a letter. In most states, if you try to send a simple dispute or validation letter after this 30 days, they can and will laugh and ignore you. In these cases you have to be creative and use the laws available to you.

For example, if you ignored letters but now want the debt validated, check your credit reports. If they are listed you can then challenge the listing and force validation in that manner. It is all about the wording of your letter and the rights you invoke.

That is why using a template letter, or a sample validation letter word for word doesn't work....sending the letter is not what will get you results, it is what is in the letter and your knowledge of your rights.
