I had a relative contact me saying miland has been calling them daily asking for me even after they said i dont live there. They gave me the phone number to call midland and i did. The guy on the phone is expectedly rude after i tell him I am on a fixed income and his "options" for me are unreasonable. I get his name and info and the account info hes provided and tell him I would consider the info and call him back by weeks end. He gets nastier and tells me if I dont call him back in thiry minutes to not bother contacting the agency again and he will pursue the next step.

Are these tactics legal? I live in wa state and the debt is within the sol. I am assuming they have licenses to collect in every state.

NEVER assume anything about a debt collector like midland. They are among the worst ever in the business. The answer to your question is no, that is not legal. They are not allowed to try to bully someone into such an action. That is harassment, plain and simple. They are not allowed, per the FDCPA, to use any tactics that harass or abuse the consumer.
