Are these tactics legal? I live in wa state and the debt is within the sol. I am assuming they have licenses to collect in every state.

They are not allowed to try to bully someone into such an action. That is harassment, plain and simple. They are not allowed, per the FDCPA, to use any tactics that harass or abuse the consumer.

Do you mind give us a little more detail about the debt? things like the amount, the last date of payment (how old the debt is), and when the first contact with you about this debt was. With that info we will be able to help you legally tell this guy off. :)

the debt is a charge-off from sept. of 08 and is a compilation of three credit cards. totaling a little over 4k. this was the first time i had talked with anyone about the debt ever from any agency. my sol in wa is 6 years.
