Fraud by First Source Advantage
Date: Fri, 03/26/2010 - 09:15
Gopal began pressuring me to give my bank information to give him a check over the phone. I would not.
I contacted ATT/Southwestern Bell and research was done by my SS#. I was told I did NOT owe any bill to Southwestern Bell or ATT. I called First Source Advantage and told them the same today.
I told Gopal what number/person I spoke to at ATT/SWB. He put me on hold for a long time then came back to the phone and said, "It's ok."
WEIRD, huh?

I was mercilessly harrassed by a "B" something Indian for over a month. This person speed dialled my business telephone up to 25 times in a row two to three times a day, sometimes forcing me to unplug my telephone just to get my phone messages off my business telephone. After making a payment to bring my account up to date with American Express,, AND signing up for automatic payments with American Express this "B" person kept on harassing me calling me repeatedly over and over to get me to accept a payoff. Finally I accepted their "offer". On March 30 they took the money out of my account, BUT still on the american express website the accout shows as open with an outstanding balance. Also, American Express took the money out subsequent to my "paying off" the balance due with the offered "payoff" and now I can't get through to theses assholes to discuss why they are not keeping their part of the bargain. They are thieves, don't accept any deals with them, they will screw you!

It sounds like you got scammed, are you absolutely certain it was someone calling on behalf of American Express?
Know your rights
Collection agencies count on the fact that you do not know the laws concerning collections. There is a very simple solution to make it stop. Get their address and send them a certified letter telling them to stop. Check out Ben Dovers web sight fora template.
They can say they are an "agent" of any company they want. Debts that are written off are sold in bulk to the highest bidder. The original debtor has written off the debt. They will not get a penny of any monies paid to collection agencies.
For your protection, keep a note pad and record every time they call. Better yet, inform them that you are also recording the call. If they don't hang up, ask for the address to which you can send a payment. They prefer payment methods that can't be traced, i.e. cashers check. This keeps you from seeing how the check is endorced. Once you get the address, send them the letter on Ben's web site. That should do it.
Finally, educate yourself on the law. Read the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. Per the law, the information can only be on our credit report for 7 years. Find out what the statute of limitations is for collections in your state. Mine is 4. I stopped them dead in their tracks.
This is one time the law is on your side. Use it to protect yourself and make these goons go away once and for all.
Good luck

Source and Palisade is a Fraud
I was told I have an outstanding bill with altell and I knew I did the early termination and went to verizon. Palisde colletiion had the account the sold it to Source. Palise couldn't give me an account number and said my account was sold to Source. I called Source and he immediately start quoting his line and I told him I don't have a past due account and He stated quit trying to get out of paying your bill the nerve of people and hung up. I call back again I was trying to ask him question about an account. Then he finally let me talk and then put me on hold and came back and said ok we will make a note of that. Then 5 minutes I got a call from Source saying I need to pay my bill and how will I be taking care of it today, I tried to explain to him and told him the other representive hung up on me and that wasn't right. When I told him that this bill wasn't mine he start going off and saying I need to pay the money so when he got loud I got loud, then he stated that's why I'm going to hang up on you too and he did. I call back and ask to speak to a supervisor he stated they don't have supervisor that deal with the public just pay your bill and I ask how can you make me paying for a bill that I don't have he stated all we need is your social security number, I politely said have a good day an hung up. I had rearch and call Altel and they had nothing in there system andif they couldn't pull it up then I have no outstanding balance. Then I call verizon and she check with the old telephone and see the account could have went to an outside collection. She stated no they it would have came to them after the merger and since I have been with the company I would have to had to pay and there wasn't nothing saying I owe anything in the system. Where do the collection people get the people that work for them if a person owe some money to them, and the way they talk at you they'll never get paid. Do your research and don't paying anything if they can't give you account number and information.

If you request validation and the agency refers to the supposed debt owner and the supposed debt owner comes back and says "We don't have anything on this, check your credit reports," there is nothing on the credit reports, then there isn't a debt, if there were one, it is long since past reportability or collectibility. Supposedly even if a debt cannot be legally recovered someone can ask you for the money hundreds of years later.

they're harassing us about my brother in law
We're getting harassing calls from them about my husband's brother, demanding his phone number and threatening to come after us for his debt. They refuse to tell us what the debt is. My brother in law is mentally and physically disabled and doesn't have any debts now--he did at one time but those appear to have all been settled.

I too am being harassed by this company. I just filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau everyone should do the same.
That's exactly what I just did, filed a complaint with the BBB.

Another question
Did this ever get resolved? I have an amex debt and they said it was sent to this agency.the number matches. I have just settled and now I'm not sure if I should go through with this or not? Was your balance ever cleared up?
Fraud
This same story happened to my mom. 1st Source Advantage called her and told her she owed on a bill. She is elderly and I take care of her bills. She is not late and when I called back they were rude and would not tell me what they did as a company. I called twice and they gave me the run around when I asked questions on my mom's behalf.
This upset my mom and made her panic. Considering she's not 100% sure what is going on, she easily could have goofed up and trusted these people and gave out "personal" information.
Be careful of them. I think they are a scam.
