If you have not been served, and you want to be sure that no one has filed a suit against you, you should go to your local court house and use their case index. Some county court systems like Cook County, IL have an online search database. You should be able to find any case filed against you by your name. Any case for debt will most likely be filed under the civil division, but it could be something else depending on your local rules.
Someone calling you on the phone telling you they're from a process server is NOT proper service in ANY state. If you find a suit has been filed against you, get your case file, the affidavit of service from the case file, and argue improper service in your answer.

Ok I am in NH...I will see if can find out if I can search on-line to see if my county/city's court case indexes are on-line. If not I will see if I can go down to the courthouse. Thanks!

I got a call from someone who Identified as "Mr. Bronson" from Process Servers United who stated they were calling about 1 count of wire fruad. They said they had been hired by Sullivan & Randolf Firm and they would be delivering a subpoena to my work and home. They said that if I wanted to make a voluntary statement I should call 1-877-777-9122 and also gave me a case number. I looked up the the firms location, it is in North Carolina, but I live far away from there. I don't even know what wire fraud is or how I would be involved with something like that sounds like a scam is it?

this is a bottomfeeding scam.a process server will not contact you to pay a debt.this is a scare tactic.file a police report of your own for the call.then file AG,and FTC complaints against united processing.again a bottomfeeder that attempts to collect on illegal pdl's using scare tactics.debts are civil matters at best, this idiot is implying you commited a crime.file the report, and complaints.then hang up on him as he can do nothing he threaten, and it's not worth your time to even give him the time of day.

they seem to really have crawled out of the woodwork lately.. they are a scam and the best way to handle them, in my opinion and experience, is to ignore them and report them.
