Its wise to keep the old credit reports for a sufficient period of time so that you can cross check if needed. But, do you need a ten year old credit report? I don't think so. Hence, it varies between the customers how long one wants to keep it in files.

Maintaining a record for two to three years might be useful, especially when chances for identity thefts are rising everyday.

If old reports is presented on your credit report then, you will send letter to update you credit score & remove old records from your credit report to your credit service provider or credit bureau.
