this may be a silly question, but how long to keep old credit reports? Is it ok to shred the old one when you get the next updated one or should you keep it in case of future errors? thank you


Its wise to keep the old credit reports for a sufficient period of time so that you can cross check if needed. But, do you need a ten year old credit report? I don't think so. Hence, it varies between the customers how long one wants to keep it in files.

Maintaining a record for two to three years might be useful, especially when chances for identity thefts are rising everyday.
