Yeah, I just receive a phone call from some law firm stating that they had a file in my name, stating that I have 3 counts and that I owed Quick Cash Net for a payday loan that I received for 400.00. Well, I first I told the person that I could not understand what he was saying, and just like he was collecting information on me I was collecting information from him. He said that I to could go to jail for this, or go to court and pay over 5,000.00. Well, I told him, if this was true, why have I not received any correspondence about this? He replied, you have not received anything about this? Oh no!!!! Wow, if you are doing business with a creditor, should you have known this already? He wanted me to pay 989.00 on 5/19/10, not happening. So he said that I will have to fight it out in court and that he could not help me, but what is so funny is that less then 10 minutes, he's calling back stating that he has talked with the creditor, and they will except this payment on 6/11/10, but I need to type up this authorization letter, with me information and fax it back to him, that's not going to happen. I have dealt with alot of payday loans, and I have never dealt with one where: 1. the telephone number is unlisted, 2. they don't have their own documentation forms, and 3. the catcher, is that they can not receive any emails, or mailings at all, they are a law firm, that's crazy. This in my eye sight is a scam!!! My POC is David Parker and the fax number is 714-333-3054, now this a fax number but to where I don't know. I am located in Maryland, should I be worried about this?

If you're living in Maryland and having trouble with those PDL's or people claiming to be collecting on PDls, you might also want to contact the MD Dept. of Financial Regulation in Baltimore (phone # and address listed on this site). And if you HAVE dealt with PDL's in the past and have people calling you like this, please keep a close eye on your bank account in case anyone tries to take money.

I have so stupid in the past!!! This PDL thing was driving me up a wall and I do not handle stress very well. There were a number of scams but I got a handle on it before it got in to me too deep. Mr. Santana, David Walker, Mark Thomas just to name a few are some of the namews thaat were used. All of these people spoke with a heavy Mid-Eastern accent, barely understandable. Beware! Do not be one of thoise who were just plain dumb>

Jumper, it's not being stupid, it's called being human. Most of us here have been in the same boat to one degree or another. Lately it seems that there's been an epidemic of these scam calls; wonder if it's possibly due in part that some areas are cracking down on PDL's and those businesses want to make up their losses by these intimidating phone calls, or what? It's disgusting, they use legal-sounding terminology, official-sounding company names, and try to scare people into sending them money.

There is a website out there about these calls - the guy calls them habba dabbas because they all sound like they are from India. I've tried posting the link but I guess since the source of the information is unverified I can't directly link you to site.

Google the number you got and see if a blog entry on 800notes.com comes up. The person usually posts the link to their website there. They have like 100 numbers that the scammers have used. They all sound the same, make the same threats.
