I do not know where to begin helping my mom with all of her secretive debt and bills that she cannot meet, or teach her to consolidate when she does not know of the information out there to consolidate her private loans.

First of all get hold of a copy of your mother's credit report. This will help you in collecting information on all her debts in detail. Then make a list of all the accounts, and divide them into paid and unpaid. Check the status of paid accounts. If there are any discrepancies first dispute those with the credit bureaus.

As for the unpaid accounts try paying those off. If you can't seem to make the payments you can consolidate her debts. However, if you can't consolidate the debts on your own, you can join debt consolidation program. In debt consolidation program, the counselor does all the negotiations with the creditor on your behalf.
