My credit is TERRIBLE, due to high medical bills, bounced checks, and stupidly getting credit cards at 18 years old. I'm 26 now and REALLY want to clean up my credit. Where is the best place to begin? It seems like a hopeless cause...I really don't know where to start...PLEASE HELP!

Hi Meech.....Let's start with the BEST news.....You are 26 ....most of us do not wake up in many areas of our life until we pass 25-30 years old. So, stop beating yourself up ....it is not hopeless. First, get a free copy of your credit report....look through this site for the websites or maybe someone will post it. It is even worth it to go to Myfico and pay $11.95 to check ...use the code MYFICO 25. Anyway, are you working? Set a budget....come back and post about specific old debts and bank accounts and someone can help you, but we need specifics. Save money if you can....do you have family who can help? take first things first....get your credit report and see where you are at and start saving!!! You can do this!!! Read these forums and post questions.....debtor in CA

Hi Meechell....must be a conincidence as I am in nursing also.....welcome.....that will definitely help you out...completing nursing school ....it always helps with lending. Do not be discouraged with the current job market. I too graduated when the economy was in the dumpster.....many years later, i can tell you that it was the best thing I ever did!!! Good luck to you....come back and post any questions!!! take care and keep studying....concentrate on nursing school.....do the best you can with the debt! Nursing school first!

Hi Meechell,

Are you making payments towards your debts? Give us details about your debts, how old they are and the amount you're paying towards them. Since you're working, look closely at your budget and cut down on your spendings. Frugal living will help you to see through the rough times.

Regarding your low credit scores, the best way to improve your score is by making regular payments towards your debts and using your credit card wisely. Read the various forums in this site. They'll help you a lot.
