A Chapter 7 bankruptcy generally stays in the credit report for 10 years from the day of discharge. But, it will stay for 20 years on your court record as 'public records'.

I was trying to find out more on the court records. I think the court keeps the bankruptcy record for a certain period of time (read 20 years) in their files, in case there's any necessity for it. I'm not totally convinced though.
