Debt question
Date: Tue, 11/16/2010 - 11:41
Hello, As embarrasing as this is is. I need real advice. I have unsecured debt that amounts to $45K. I own my home and don't wish to sell for a few years. My home was appraised at $96k 7years ago and neighbors have sold there homes in the high 190-200k range within the last 2. I want to (eventually) fix up my home, re-appraise and sell, but I can no longer stay afloat with the 6 monthly credit payments on top of mortgage and utils. On top of that I very recently spent over $1600 on emergency car bills span to 2 months) which dug me back into what took months to crawl out of!! Some say you need debt management, but I feel like I am in debt crisis mode. I've still managed to pay the minimums each month plus a few bucks here and there but with the interests rates in the high 20's it's not much. My mortgage payments are also current although i pay on the 16th instead of the 1st, which is one day before the late fee kicks in. And there so much out there!! How to know what is legitimate and what is a scam can be daunting. and the levels of choices too. Should I try credit counseling, debt consolidation, Debt settlement, attorney,....I'm at the end of my rope and my mind is crumbling. I wish to do whatever it takes and eliminate this debt and get back on my feet again, But where to start is mind numbing. For once, I'd like to take the right path and get my life back. TY

In this process, you will need to negotiate your settlement amount with your creditors and pay it in a lump sum or in monthly installments.
