My wife was told that I have an uncollected debt on a Discover card that is not ours. This is not my debt! I just called back the person who talked with my wife and she tells me that she can't look up the account by my name because there are too many people with the same name. I asked to talk to a manager and my request was denied because "the manager would just tell me the same thing". When I tell them that I will not give any additional information, the agents abrubtly end the call.As far as I know, the only information that they have is a name and my home phone number. I now have the last four digits of the Discover account that they say is mine and the amount owed.I want them to stop calling, but they tell me that I have to give them some additional information for them to look up the account. We are at an impass. I don't know what else to do except ignore these calls.

When dealing with the original creditor to dispute a debt you need to request an INVESTIGATION.
Quote:

?? 623. (a)( 8 ) ABILITY OF CONSUMER TO DISPUTE INFORMATION DIRECTLY WITH FURNISHER
(A) IN GENERAL The Federal banking agencies, the National Credit Union Administration, and the Commission shall jointly prescribe regulations that shall identify the circumstances under which a furnisher shall be required to reinvestigate a dispute concerning the accuracy of information contained in a consumer report on the consumer, based on a direct request of a consumer.

The above excerpt applies to CRA's, however, perhaps if you request an investigation you might get a little further, it's worth a try!

I talked with Discover, but this debt is not associated with any account that I have ever had. There does not seem to be anything to investigate.

Zwicker and Associates is calling me from 978-686-2255. The return number that they give is 800-370-2251. I think I am being contacted by several individuals, but the one that most recently called me is Denise Hayes at extension 5628. Will O'Reilly is the person who refused to transfer me to a manager.

I can't even talk to them about anything unless I give additional information. They won't talk to me. They say they can't look up the account with the information that I have:my name, home phone and the last four digits of the Discover card which they are calling about.
