Hi
I am just interested to know what the wage assignment laws are for TN i have followed many links ive seen on here but still cant find it. Also does anyone know whether they can be attached to federal pay. I know alot of things cant.
Thanks

The state government of Tennessee allows wage garnishment. As per the state laws, only 25% of an individual's paycheck can be garnished. You can know about Tennessee wage garnishment laws from the following page:

A wage garnishment can only be obtained through a court of law, but they would need to get a judgment against you.

A wage assignment is something that a payday lender will stick into their contract, the customer agrees to allow the payday lender attach their wages if the customer should default. However, as Ohiogal has stated, it is voluntary and can be revoked at any time. A sample letter is below, date it and send an email to each payday lender, but most importantly, take a copy to your employer!
Quote:

The date
Your name and address
The name and address of the creditor
Your account number with the creditor

Dear Sir or Madam,

I hereby revoke your right to use any wage assignment I have signed with you. You no longer have my permission to use this wage assignment. If you fail to abide by my wishes, there will be consequences to your actions as I am sure you are aware. I have sent a copy of this to my employer, therefore any wage assignment request made by your company or any of your affiliates will be denied.

Sincerely,
Your signature

I was talking about wage assignments that some of these people get you to sign or say that you have signed( which i have never signed any). I spoke with my Payroll dept this am and i also sent them an email. I asked about the wage assignments. They told me they talked with the legal department and they WILL NOT accept any kind attachment to my pay check unless it is directly from a court in the form of an order. They told me that as i work for the federal government anyone trying to fraudulently take money from one of their employees and therefore government payroll is subject to prosecution by them.

In regards to wage assignments would a unlicensed/illegal payday lender be able to garnish my wages I reside in the state of NJ and my state prohibits payday loans. I have already sent my revoke ltrs from any futher ACH debit n garnishment assignments. Is it necessary to still notify my employer since the pdl r unlicensed n illegal n would not be able to file a judgement against me in court to garnish my wages.
