If there is credit card debt in a spouses name only, can the company hold the other spouse responsible for the debt. The spouse with the debt does not have a job and the other spouse refuses to pay it. How do the Credit Card companies handle this senerio?

Is your spouse an authorized user? If not, I don't see how they can hold him responsible. I settled all my credit card debt which was in my name only, and no one came after my husband or even called him. Also, we have separate checking accounts, and don't have a joint account (second marriage, smarter). The house is in both our names and if I hadn't settled, they could have either garnished my pay or levied a lien against the property. I live in New Jersey.
