I have been doing some investigations on here regarding Palisades Collections. My husband received a call on March 5, 2011 regarding a past due debt, it was a recording and on Mon March 7th he called the 800# and was told he owed a past debt from 4/28/86 on a car loan. My husband never had an outstanding loan and Palisades collection even had his old address from back then. They said they sent out a letter on March 2, 2011, we never received anything until yesterday March 12th and the letter was dated on day he spoke to them which was march 7th. My husband had a severe heart attack in June and because of this scam he is very close to having a stroke. Letter he received stated he owes $5,277.75 but they are offering a discount of 60% if he pays $2,111.10 by march 27th, does not give any detail of what it is for. Please give me some advice as to how to go about filing legal proceeding against them. Thank You

Ok tell your husband to breath easier. Palisades are a bunch of low life law breakers. The SOL of that debt is most likely up since it is over 20 years old! It shouldn't even be listed on the credit report. If it is, we can help you remove it and have the possibility of getting a tidy little sum for the violations.

Send them a letter like this:

I am writing in regards to the debt with account number ############ (((put your account number from the letter on it))). I am informing you now that this is not my debt. If this account is listed on my credit report I suggest you remove it immediately or face suit for FCRA/FDCPA/FACTA violations.

From this point forward you are to cease & desist all further contact with me.

do NOT sign the letter with your signature and send it certified mail return receipt. Once they get this letter they may contact you only one more time to inform you the status of the debt (if they threaten to sue, or they are ceasing communications).

If they threaten you with suit or contact you any further after this, you will have grounds to sue them and win with a slam dunk case.
