Once you request a debt validation from a collection agency, how many days are they allowed to legally respond? I read somewhere as little as 7 if they recently verified the dispute through the credit bureau. Is this true at all if not where can I get the accurate time frame from?

Midland Credit Management sent me a notice on March 13, 2011 for the first time, the notice even stated that they recently bought my debt and I have 30 days to dispute the validity of the debt but they had already report on my credit report. I know this is a violation of FDCPA. I sent a DVL today certified of course, this debt is past SOL in my state, so what???s my next step.

dispute the entry with the credit bureaus.include a copy of the DV letter,or the green receipt.also how did they report it?if they reported it as a new debt then that is re-aging and also illegal.for now you dispute the entry on your CR,and wait.this is a dirty bottomfeeder that never collects on legit debt,or debt within SOL.just know that.
