Does anyone know this number 866-402-1044?

apparently Michael Hanson is also someone who the debt collectors are trying to reach. Unfortunately, they keep dialing my number and leaving messages to call back on an 866 number. Whoever this deadbeat Michael Hanson is, I wish he hadn't given 866-402-1044 my phone number. perhaps we should all get together and file a class action suit against the company who is harassing us trying to collect debts from these deadbeats!!!!

866-402-1044 has been calling my hosue for a week early in the morning, and late in the evening. when we are all sleeping. I finally answered the phone. at first no one said anything then it said "we have an important message for you" and then a person came on the phone (866-402-1044) and asked for me. I have to credit cards but I have paid my bill. I wanted to get a message so I told them that I wasn't here and instead of them leaving a number to call back they just hung up. I have dealt with HSBC before and they are really nice. And have dealt with capital one to for a late payment and they weren't as nice and this sounded for like it was from capital one. Does anyone know how I can go about getting them to call since my bill is paid up.

866-402-1044 may belong to a debt collection company, but I'm not sure about it.
If this is a debt collector calling you, they must send the debt validation in writing so that you are sure about them having your legitimate info. Send a DV letter from your side if nothing has been sent in your mail. This will cover your basis legally and they should contact you only if they have a legitimate purpose. You can also write a cease and desist letter to stop all communications with you.

866-402-1044 number is from Discover card. They seem like harmless folks, just trying to solicit their new Discover card. They just dont leave a message, and they call during day time when we have a lot of freaking work to get done. They call on weekends in the morning as well. Just call them back at 866-402-1044 (its a toll free number, BTW) and tell them your name and your phone number and ask them to stop calling and you wont get any call from them again. Hope this helps.

866-402-1044
This is the fourth different number Discover has used in its annoyance campaign.
If you call it, you'll get, "Thank you for calling Discover Card". When someone calls more than 3 times, I wait and call back after hours to get the source of the problem.

I've received multiple calls over the past few weeks from these bozos trying to collect a debt from some deadbeat named Michael Hanson who apparently gave his creditors my phone number. I've taken to reporting the offending number that the automated calls originate from (757-321-6270) to the do not call registry www.donotcall.gov/

hi
I receive calls on my cellphone every day from this nr (HSBC Bank ). I answered and tried to tell them to stop calling me, as I have no connection whatsoever with them. But they have an automated machine calling.
I was wondering if anyone who was bugged by them got them to stop, and if so, how????

Thank you!

The told me to give this person a message. I can't give anyone a message because I don't know who they are. Sounds like HSBC is stupid or something

A debt collector usualy will never leave more than a phone number because to do so opens the possibiliy of divulging to a 3rd party the private info. (the debt)

If 800-276-5030 violates it then it would be a violation of the fdcpa to disclose to anyone else "why" they are calling.

I'm trying to help out a friend here at work -- she's been off work with her near death husband for a week and the front desk gets about 20 calls a day from 866-402-1044. It's the automated dial of "we have an important message, blah blah" but if you hang on for a few seconds, someone comes on and asks for her by name. I've given her info to recite that it is illegal to call her at her work regarding a debt, but frankly these folks are bugging the hell out of our switchboard. Any suggestions of how to make them cease and dissist?

It is illegal to call at the place of employment only if forbidden by state law, or if the debtor demands so (it may also be possible for the employee to do same). A cease and desist letter often works wonders that a verbal communication fails to do. Additionally, it is a violation of the fdcpa to call in a harassing manner. Do you have records of the incoming calls? An attorney from naca.net may be of assistance, too.

I've been making notes of how many times a day they call from 800-684-8249 - thank goodness for caler id! This poor lady has enough on her plate with her husband's deteriorating condition without coming back to the job only to have these goofballs on her back.

I think I will make the "be advised you've violated fdcpa..." -- thanks for the prompt responses!

If you are receiving calls from them and know you have no debt with them, what they're probably doing is something called skip tracing: they've lost contact with a debtor and no longer have a good phone number, so they start looking for phone numbers belonging to people with similar names/last names.

If they call acting like you're the debtor or this is their number, know that this is what they're trained to do. Supposedly, acting this way will put the actual debtor off guard and trap them into the call.

If you are not the debtor they're looking for, hold your ground and tell them that you are not so-and-so, you do not and have never known so-and-so, and you want your number taken off their calling list. They have to do this, even if they think you're lying for whatever reason.

If you still have problems, Google HSBC Bank and their global and US sites should be the top two. On the US site, there is a Contact Us link above the Online account access box on the right hand side. It includes the customer service line and mailing address for HSBC Bank. If you still receive calls after telling them it's the wrong number, or if you just want them to stop calling regardless, try mailing them a certified, return-receipt cease-and-desist letter.

Also, know that your state's Attorney General is your friend. Look up fdcpa, and if any calls you receive break those guidelines, the law is in your favor.

Answer to above--these are from Discover. I am receiving
calls within minutes of one another. Have asked the person calling to take my name off list. This AM the woman who called said my name would be removed if I would take their card and then I could decide later to keep it---and then no more calls. I just called the number back and I got Discover and reported this. Talking to telemark did not work.
