You can negotiate with the lender's lawyer for a debt settlement which will help you reduce your balance debt amount by 40-60%. However, the forgiven debt will be considered as your income and you'll be liable for paying off the taxes for it.

Chase does not own Wachovia credit card debts...wells fargo does. No debts have been sold to chase. Maybe it was Washington Mutual??
Your account is a charge off. Settling it will not change the status nor will they negotiate to change that status.
Call and negotiate the settlement yourself. Be open an honest.

My suggestion to you is not to make any settlements with Chase and cease all contact with them. If they try to sue you, then let them. Typically, when one bank is bought out by another, in this case, WaMu by Chase, 99.999% of the time none of the original account documentation is transferred to the new bank. I was sued by FIA Card Services (B of A) for a Visa that was originated with MBNA. MBNA was bought by B of A several years ago, since banks are sloppy, none of the original documentation was transferred. When it came time to go to court, B of A had nothing. Oh sure, they will flash a few past account statements, but no judge is going to award them a judgement with only a few statements. They didnt have a signed contract, could even produce a boiler plate contract since it originated with another bank, and couldnt even give an exact date or month when the account was originated. The case was dismissed. My point is this, since your account has already been charged off, settling or paying off the balance will not change the charge off on you CR. If Chase wants to get paid, you might as well make them earn it, but more than likely, they cant prove it. And please, dont feel guilty...remember, these guys took billions of your tax money to get bailed out. Did they offer to bail you out?
